Out for at least three weeks. It is a thumb injury which might just kill his bat for the year. I think the reds should call up Heineman. Guy a a great spring training. and also brings speed to a team that really needs it. I wonder who the number three hitter will be.

Rodriguez is the starting shortstop for the Bats. Tripled and scored the only run for them last night.

Well he must be better than Garcia still because Garcia is in Chattanooga.

He had a better spring training than Garcia. But he is not on the prospect list, notr on the Bats or Lookouts roster.

What happened to Alfredo Rodriguez? He is not on the prospect list anymore and there is no news on the Reds Site or anywhere else on him.

Guys on 1 and 3 no outs in bottom 9th and blandino and Naquin both look at 3rd strike. Losers I was thinking the same thing. Runner on third with no outs and down by one in the bottom of the ninth. The batter has to make some contact. Bunt, groundball anything. No excuse for that loss. During the 61 season maris Bunted for a win on the way to his 61 HR season. No one is to big to get the run home.

I don't know whether all of of what was said is true. The Reds had some very good teams in the late fifties and the early sixties. The National League was always a dogfight though because so many clubs in the NL had some real studs. There were no playoffs. Some of the Reds teams could have made the playoffs if there had been more divisions and wild cards. During the late 80's and early ninties the Reds had some great teams under Rose and Schott. But only four teams made the playoffs. The Reds could have done better the past few years. Just having money does not guarantee a championship. Look at the Angels. Look at the Yankees now. I actually believe that the Yankees will struggle for free agents in the up coming years due to taxation. Who wants 60% of your earnings to go to taxes. The Dodgers did win the series last year, but it was for the first time in over thirty years. The Padres could overetake them this year. Watch out for the Diamondbacks too. That is a good ball club.

I am going to go out on a limb and defend these guys for various reasons. 1. The umpiring was horrendous. That game on Tuesday should have been stopped after the Diamondback home run. The weather was horrendous, the balss were so wet that the pitchers could not grip them Sims was all over the place because of it. I am also willing to bet that on the play when Suarez threw out the force at the plate that the Diamondback runner going to first was inside the bag. Barnhart did not make a throw and maybe it was because of that. I don't know if that is a challengable call or not.
Very few of the ball hit by the Diamondbacks were hard hit, but everything was finding a hole. The triple was a dying quail that Naquin just missed letting the ball go all the way to the wall.
The reds could use a relief pitcher. I still think the Reds should try to trade an outfielder to the Yankees. I don't know what the problem is dealing with the Yankees. It is where the Reds got Sonny Gray.
Winker has impressed me this year. He has done better than I expected. So has Castallanos .

That game should have been called after the home run. The conditions were horrendous. I was watching it on MLB. Sims Could not even grip the baseball, or control his footing. Bell should have pulled the team from the field when the umpires refused to stop play. To his credit Bell plead the case as did Barnhart, but the umpires were too stubborn. I guess they will make it up Wednesday. It was a downpour. The infield will be a mess tomorrow with all the water under the tarp. I can only recall something like this about fourty years ago with the Phillies in the playoffs. Steve Carlton was pitching in a downpour during the playoff. That was on National TV though. This was a game in early April.

Now might be a good time for the Reds to trade an outfielder to the Yankees. Maybe pick up a pitcher.

It is no surprise to me because I mentioned it on this board. Can't find the thread now. Garrett Cole and Trevor Bauer were teammates in college. They didn't get along. Trevor singled him out in his dislike of Astros methods Yet they have similar careers. Cole had a few good with the Pirates before his stuff started going south. At Houston he miraculously resurrected his career and became a CY Young. Bet it had something to do with spin rate. Trevor Bauer's career was turning south in Cleveland before his trade with the Reds. With the Reds his spin rate went up dramatically, and he became a Cy Young. In an article I read this past winter it was rumored that Bauer and other were mixing Coca Cola with pine tar to get a better grip on the ball. They also were mixing it with other things to get a clear skin tone. Sorta of like a woman does with lotion and make-up, only in a pitcher it was to make the substance undetectable by sight. So I don't believe it is coincidental that Bauer is being looked at Sorry Dodgers, he's your problem now. Next up for inspection Garrett Cole.
I am just waiting for some ingenious nail salon to come up with steel fake fingernails that have serrated edges so a pitcher can cut the ball. The pitchers can turn their hands into Swiss army Knives

Hard to believe especially after that lousy spring training. Hop it continues. I think they will be going against a rookie pitcher tomorrow night. Next couple of weeks look really good. Then its the Dodgers and the Cubs. Then we will really know. Amir will be all right. Maybe he was too relaxeds. That can happen with huge leads and a rusty arm.

Didn't see a lot of the game because I was outdoors working. DeLeon looked great. I especially like the way he struck out the side after Suarez botched the double play. He could have cratered, but he didn't. 2 on nobody out facing the meat of the Pirate line-up and he strikes them all out. True Garrett was a little rusty, but he got the job done. Castellanos was really great. I wasn't really expecting much from Deleon.

Impressive weekend
I was really surprised by Hoffman's outing. He just got bombed in spring training and I was expecting the same to happen yesterday. Maahle was great which I also did not expect. He only pitched 5 innings in spring training and he wasn't that great. I think he has the goods to be a number one starter, but time will tell. Castellanos was great as was Stephenson. I expect Stephenson to take over more of the catching duties as the season goes on. Deleon is going tonight and Miley tomorrow. Neither looked good in spring training. Then again it is the Pirates.
I still think Naquin and Payton are better than Senzel and Winker, but I guess time will tell I would rather have Suarez at third and Farmer at short. I still don't like Mopustakas starting. The team maybe better than I thought if the pitching continues to surprise.
