Word is that Ohtani wants out of LA. I wonder if the Reds could make a play for him He would only cost 8 Million for the next two years. If the Reds offered Gray and Miley plus a combination of Aqunino, Shrock, Senzel, Naquin or Lopez they might be able to grab him. The reds have the depth at pitching with Lodolo Greene and Ashcraft set to arrive next year.

This team has got to learn how to manufacture runs. They have to learn how to bunt especially when the shift is on. The last thing this club needs is strikeouts or double plays. I saw somebody say that the 1990 club was a fluke. What that club that this team does not was speed and a great bullpen.

I think the road trip was absolutely great. The Reds did lose two in extras, but the won both series. The trades got just what the Reds were looking for. Givens was a steal. The Yankees are probably looking at: A. Lopez, and ARod at Louisvile or Cedrola and Mount at Chattanooga. The Yankees need hitters. They might be after Barrero, but I don't think the Reds will give him up.
The disabled list is interesting. I wouldn't be surprised to see Bandino, Senzel, or Moustakas until September. . Sims and Antoine will be back sooner than that.
The schedule is favorable. Time for a long run. I will admit that I have been pessimistic in the past, but this looks like a good team. I still don't think Bell prepares very well in spring training however.

Every team needs pitching help right now. So whatever the Reds want is going to be expensive. The biggest chip the Reds have to play is Castellanos, and trading him might be a good idea. He has a player's option for next year and his agent is Boras. He will be asking for a huge increase in salary. If the Reds can get some valuble pitching for him they should trade him now rather than lose him in free agency..

A few years ago MLB changed the baseballs to make them more aerodynamic. Some pitchers complained about being able to grip the baseball. Some even developed blisters trying to do so. Home runs shot up dramatically, along with velocity off the bat. Pitchers developed a remedy by doctoring the ball, which increased spin rate along with strikeouts. I do not know the exact stats, but right after a cardinal pitcher was challenged the Cardinal pitcher the Reds swept the Cardinals and were hit by pitches quite a lot. One even looked like the pitcher was headhunting by throwing behind the batter.
Baseball needs to enhance the abilities for pitchers to grip the ball if they are going to rule out foreign substances before someone gets hurt bad. The ball also does not need to be so aerodynamic so that a pitcher's life is at risk after delivering the pitch by a baseball coming back at him at 120 miles an hour. I know offense is important, but I don't want to see baseball become amateur softball.
This has the potential to split the Players union between pitchers and positions players. The pitchers could walk out of the union if something is not done about the baseballs.
Barry Larkin says baseball has not changed. It will change as baseball is forcing pitchers to throw billard balls instead of baseballs.

I really do not like those really long contracts. They almost always end up bad. The Reds also do not have that much flexibility next year. I'd say sign him for three years and see what happens. Chances are he will not get better after thirty, and these contracts are always back loaded.
I guess a 7 year contract might be good with a team option ever year after three. Then if the production falls off the club can drop him.

Something is wrong with Amir Garrett. The annoucers said Garrett did not want to come out of the game, but I know I saw him motion to David Bell to come to the mound after he got the second out. It was unusual.

Bench might have been able to do it, but maybe not. He had really big hands, and fingers so maybe he wouldn't have been able to control a curve or a slider. He definitely had the arm strength. Stepheson might be a candidate. I think some NFL quarterbacks might be able to pull it off. A Terry Bradshaw or a Greg Cook. The key for the hitting would be generating enough bat-speed. The guy needs to be big, yet have slender fingers so they can control the ball. They would also need a tremendous amount of discipline.

The 2020 contracts made it very hard for the Reds to upgrade in 21. Votto's contract is another problem. There is no way Bell is going to let go of Farmer. He brought him to Cincinnati with him. I think ARod should be on the club right now, but he is not a favorite son for some reason. Santillan and Guttierez have both looked good so far for Louisville.

I know we're not supposed to pay attention to spring training outings, but didn't Castillo get knocked around consistently then, too? I was really surprised at the Reds pitching approach during spring training. The starters did not get a whole lotta work. Castillo had a low ERA during the spring, but his WHIP was high. 1.50.

Staying well is an issue for him. He has yet to make through a regular season. He couldn't even make through last year's shortened season. Isn't the brightest guy around either. Tried to steal second last nigh when Winker had a 3-0 count. He is 2 for seven on SB this year.

I try to be as positive as possible, but I also like to be realistic. Sorry I did not post after the no-hitter. It was impressive and so was the fielding. Yes, Senzel caused Miley to lose the perfect game, but it was a tough play to make. I thought the team was bad coming out of spring training. I especially thought the pitching was weak. the starters have done better than I would have thought. The relief has been bad. The thing that impressed me most about the no-hitter was Moustakas play at first. He looked better than Votto. Senzel did make the errors, but they were understandable Suarez was back at third where he should be. Farmer needs to be DFA'ed. The only reason he is still on the team is because of this 3rd catcher issue. I would be more comforatable if the reds brought up A Rod. I don't know why people would say he is bad. He has always done well in spring training and his hitting has improved. He also adds speed to the club. I would also like to see the Reds bring up either Heineman or Payton to replace Naquin. The club is near .500. They could do better. They may need to replace Castillo. He is starting to look like Bailey in his last year. Excuse me? Did I read that correctly? We’re you serious about replacing Naquin with Payton or Heineman? Really? Tyler Naquin is tied for the team lead in RBI’s has 7 home runs, is batting.276 and you want him replaced with 2 guys that if you called those guys scrubs, a real life scrub would show up at your front door with his shirt off wanting to fight because you compared him to those 2. Just to be fair, if that’s your opinion you are entitled to it, also I don’t ever want to be seen as a poster who ridicules someone who has a different opinion or view on things as myself, but come on man, you had it coming, you almost made me choke to death on my corn flakes. You may be right about Naquin. I would not call Heineman or Payton scrubs. I never was impressed with Naquin. He has a lot of RBI's but He isn't what I would call a high energy guy.
