I have been extremely critical of the front office since Lark started this board back in 1924 but the Reds addressed a need (the bullpen) without mortgaging the future, we have Lorenzen back, Votto and India are on fire, and Castellanos starts rehab this weekend apparently. Plus, 13 of the last 58 games are against the hapless Pirates. I'm not turning into Fanman here, I'm just saying there's a chance, and we should quit bitching, at least temporarily, and start supporting this team.

Yes I give the front office and the players credit for playing a good brand of baseball. The season is very interesting again. Unfortunately that western division has three good teams which makes it hard for the Reds to get into that wild card spot. But there is hope for that and hope also for catching the Brewers. Go Reds! just make sure Garrett does not get into any tight games. Maybe with our new relievers we won’t have to use Garrett.

July was a great offensive month for the Reds. 3 out of the top 7 major league offensive performers (by fWAR) were Reds:
1. Juan Soto (1.8) 2. Manny Machado (1.8) 3. Joey Votto (1.6) 4. Kyle Farmer (1.5) 5. AJ Pollock (1.5) 6. Harrison Bader (1.4) 7. Jonathan India (1.4)
The only Reds hitter to be over 1.0 during a month was Castellanos in May at 1.6. Farmer somehow outperformed Willy Adames, who had a great month and was #10...."exactly as I planned it", says Nick Krall. You can't expect it to last but after complaining about Farmer batting 6th once earlier this year, I'm now thinking you might as well keep him sandwiched right where he his between Winker and Votto. He should continue to get pitches in the strike zone so if he keeps the line drive and hard contact rates up, he should be productive as the babip regresses from the ridiculous .443. Votto, by the way, only had a soft contact % of 7.5 on the month.
The Reds are going to need all the offensive weapons contributing to have any shot with the lackluster, though improved, bullpen.

I think the road trip was absolutely great. The Reds did lose two in extras, but the won both series. The trades got just what the Reds were looking for. Givens was a steal. The Yankees are probably looking at: A. Lopez, and ARod at Louisvile or Cedrola and Mount at Chattanooga. The Yankees need hitters. They might be after Barrero, but I don't think the Reds will give him up.
The disabled list is interesting. I wouldn't be surprised to see Bandino, Senzel, or Moustakas until September. . Sims and Antoine will be back sooner than that.
The schedule is favorable. Time for a long run. I will admit that I have been pessimistic in the past, but this looks like a good team. I still don't think Bell prepares very well in spring training however.

We probably won't make the playoffs this year.. but am I optimistic? Yes. This is probably my favorite team by far since I was a kid and watched the 1990 team win the World Series. I look forward to watching them every night, and I don't remember a time where I was like that. They are an exciting group, and we have a great core of players moving forward that definitely have a better attitude than the Dusty teams. This team has swag. The next couple of years should be a lot of fun, especially when Greene, Lodolo, and Barrero join the team. I think the front office will be a little more aggressive on finding bullpen arms this year, I think this team may have surprised them even.

If India, Farmer, Votto, Stephenson, and Winker continue to hit when Castellanos comes back, we don't need the bullpen to be any great shakes, just mediocre. Guiterrez has been better than expected as the #5 starter. Put Moustakas back at third when he comes off the DL and let Suarez be a power bat off the bench - the light just isn't going to come back on for him.

As proven again tonight, they're not even mediocre. How many blown saves does Hembree have to have before Bell refuses to trot him out in the 9th with a lead. I guess that number hasn't been reached yet.

Unbelievable how the reds bullpen almost blew another game today against the twins.this is why they aren’t going anywhere.
