Cuban defector Felix Perez signed with the reds shortly after Adonis Chapman. Since his signing he has worked his way throught the Reds farm system. Last year he was easily Louisville's best player batting .301 with a .346 OBP and .757 OPS. He is currently batting .297 with a .322 OBP and .737 OPS in Venezuela. He has largely been ignored by the media because of his age. He is lefthanded and has played center and right field. I disagree with the opinion that he is nothing more than a fifth outfielder because of his steady rise in the Reds system. He has no where to go if the Reds keep Paul.
He would be nice for Miami because 1. He cannot reach arbritration ubtil he is 31. He can't reach free agency until he is 33. 2. He is a Cuban defector.
Of course his salary status would make him nice for the reds also.
He is not a fake player.

I like the idea of going after Stanton in Miami I think if you stated out by offering Cueto and Perez you could get the deal done. Both Cueto and perez should be draws in Miami's Latin market. Cueto is a big upgrade to their pitching staff. Of course you could offer Chapman and Perez, but I don't think that would go over too weel in Cincinnati. Keep Stubbs to face the lefthanders.
Line-up Hamilton/ Stubbs CF Phillips 2b Votto 1b Stanton LF Bruce RF Fraizer 3B Cozart SS Hannigan C
Bench Rodriguez, Gregorius, Paul, Merasco, or Navarro
Dump Heisey,

Although New York and Calidornia have big markets they also have big taxes which affect salary. New yark and California are also expensive places to live unlike Texas which has no state income tax and is a cheaper place to buy a house. A 10 million dollar contract in Houston or Dallas is only worth 5 million in New York or LA. Besides due to the hurricane parts of New York will be tent city for years. I don't see New York coming back nearly as quick as New Orleans or Houston.

You would be adding a big salary like Bruce/ Votto for years to come. I might try to offer Cueto, and say Gregorius, or Rodriguez. Off load Heisey while you are at it. Platoon Stubbs, and Hamilton. right now.

I would go with bringing up Perez and Hamilton , and or Lutz. Forget about the free agents. Keep Stubbs around for the lefthanders.

At Arizona he is batting .188 against lefties versus .308 against right-handers. He also hasn't stolen a base against a left-hander, but he has been picked off. He has struck out 1 in every three at bats against lefties and has not walked.

Let's face it Stubbs is decent against Left handers. Hamilton appears to stink against left handers. Could the Reds platoon them?

It has been interesting following the winter leagues. Perez has been doing well in Vennezuela. I know everyone considers him to only be a fifth outfielder. I don't know what the assumption is based on, but he is an option right now for next year. Doesn't walk very much, but bats over .300.
Rodriguez is doing very well of late in Vennezuela. He might be a good replacement for Cairo.
Hamilton has done all right Gregorius looks a little weak until you look at he splits. Neither Hamilton nor Gregorius can hit left handers. They are terrible. Which might be a reason to platoon Stubbs/ Hamilton next year. Stubbs actually is decent against left-handers. Only Votto, Hannigan, and Frazier hit lefties better than nStubbs last year.
Lutz had a good fall, It appears he hits lefties well also which make him a possible for left field.

I just did some checking Barney's .997 fielding percentage for 2012 is a major league record for 150+ games. Polano had a 1.000 season, but he didn't play 150 games.
The Baseball akmenac had Jose Oquendo as the previous record holder at .996 for 1990. Brandon did reach that last year I believe.
The NL record holder for 100 + games was none other than Bret Boone 1997 Cincinnati Reds He won three gold gloves at second, but none of the Reds' writers mentioned him as a good fielder..

Barney played 15 more games than Phillips
The only area where Phillips could have beaten Barney is in assists. And don't forget Barney doesn't make errors. He may not be as flashy, but what he gets to is automatic. He didn't go 141 games without an error by accident. He had more chances than Phillips and he didn't screw up as much.
I do believe Votto beat Soto a few years ago in the ROY. If Baker had played Hannigan instead of Bako Soto would not have even been the best rookie catcher that year.

Fielding PCT Phillips .992 Barney .997
Errors Phillips 5 Barney 2
Range factor Phillips 4.55 Barney 5.16
Putouts Phillips 241 Barney 311
Assists Phillips 391 Barney 411
DP's Phillips 73 Barney 96
Phillips just got beat plain and simple. Congrats to Barney.

Not at all Everyone knows Stubbs isn't good and heisey is mediocre as is Paul for most of his career. I wouldn't pay any of them a million dollars or give them a big raise through arbritration.
But why go outside your organization for something you have in it.
Perez and Phipps will both be real cheap. Perez can't reach arbritration until his thirties. I also don't believe that anyone who bats .300 at AAA is worthless. It is at least worth a look at ST.

There is no reason to trade for another outfielder.
The Reds now have Bruce Stubbs Heisey Paul
At triple A Phipps Perez
At AA Smith Felhauer Hamilton ( who should be in center if the Reds want to make him an outfielder) Lamarre (who someone said will be in center at Louisville next year) Lutz ( who played 33 games in left last year and is tearing the cover off the ball in Arizona.)
