I loved all the bullpen signings we did in the off-season, I was much more dubious giving multi year contracts to Montas and Jeimer. Jeimer is at least hitting a bit, but he's also basically a DH or negative defender at either IF corner at this point. Really? I didn't get, and still don't I guess, the Emilio Pagan signing. Massive flyball pitcher in a bandbox? I didn't understand the Nick Martinez signing, mostly because there were rumblings that he was going to start. It seemed like a lot of money (2 years, $26M) for a swingman. He's been solid, but feels like there were better ways to deploy that money.

More so the quantity of relievers we signed for both the big club and AAA. Quantity is a quality all of its own, especially a position that is as volatile year to year as relief pitcher.
I agree that was a little rich for Martinez, but that's playing in the FA market, which is why the Reds are pretty gung ho about development.

Yeah, I like that perspective, but the offseason always felt a bit like an expensive island of misfit toys. I'm still not exactly sure what we bought.

Montas was always a curious choice. A starting pitcher coming off shoulder surgery with a history of illegal performance enhancing drug use. Seems like a higher level of risk than the team needed, especially given how much volatility should/could have been expected from relying so heavily on young players; the team needed certainty and reliability. Obviously, Montas hasn't paid off yet and it's not promising that he will. I'm hoping we decline his 2025 club option and use that money to go after a FA professional hitter or two.

Julian Aguiar is going to get a shot sooner rather than later if he keeps pitching the way he has been the last two seasons. If Greene, Lodolo, and Abbott are all healthy going into next year, I'd rather roll with Aguiar and Spiers than spend 8 figures on Montas. Not to mention Rhett Lowder and Chase Petty could be close next year too. Lowder had a good start in AAA today, 5 scoreless, 8 groundouts vs 1 flyouts, 63 pitches.

No need for trading for anybody with this rotten red team. They are a bunch of castoffs. no way they will even get a wild card spot. They just can’t put it together. Let’s face it they are bums. They find ways to lose a ball game instead of how to win a ball game.

"That's a good team over there. They're in the hunt,” Law said. “It just goes to show that we should be in the hunt.”
Quote from Nationals pitcher Derek Law after a 2nd straight win over a hapless, helpless Reds team. "Good team" and "in the hunt" (for a playoff spot) should never be used referring to this team. This team is the schitte sandwich on a grill full of ribeyes.

Yes, unfortunately. Nice belt high fastball that was clobbered. Sorry, Abbott, you deserved better. Your anemic offense and your blowpen let you down. Keep your head up. Free agency is coming one of these days.

Let’s face it this red team are a bunch of pukes. They have packed it in early this year. losing three in a row to Washington is a travesty. I am done with them.if they don’t care then neither do I.

I've heard it said of old, "You Cruz, you lose."

Marte has no phucking idea where the strike zone is. He swings at balls over his head, a foot inside or outside. Needs to be sent down.

I knew it! I knew we were going to lose. We've gotta no hit the Brewers and still have some luck to win. I am so phucking tired of losing to the Brewers. 6 of 8 now this year.
