As rough has this year has been so far, technically speaking the Reds are only 2 games out of 2nd place in the division and only something like 3 games out from a wildcard spot. Has it been good? No. Is the sky falling? Also no. The rotation is starting to shape up, maybe Noelvi Marte will be a shot in the arm in the next month or so, maybe EDLC gets hot again, etc.... This is one bulls&&& of a team that can’t function enough to play good baseball. They actually s##k big time. Can anyone imagine losing three games to the hapless Tigers? A complete disgrace to Major League Baseball. this red team belongs in double baseball.personally in done with watching this inept team. something is definitely wrong with this team probably a combination of bad players and a terrible manager

Everyone thinks its the players, but WHO'S leading them ? NOBODY. David Bell is trying to beat his dad as the worst MLB manager ever. Put an offensive oriented manager to lead this team and things would be different. More runs produced per game, pro-active baserunning, better first and third base coaches, swing the bat for hits NOT homers, and this team can excel. This small market team needs to be playing smart baseball - small ball. They're is no excuse when this team gets a man on second or third with no outs and they don't score - BAD COACHING. The pitching has been above average but the managing of the pitchers suck. How many games have we seen where the starting pitching has us in the game and then the relievers are brought in and game blown. Relievers doing their job and pulled because of managers stupid game plan of new pitcher every inning. With BELL on this team - there's no chance this team will ever compete. Castellini I'm sick and tired of watching this half ass franchise with BELL as captain. The season may be half over and reds behind by 10 but they're NOT going anywhere with this moron manager. Wake up and watch the SH*t you're throwing to the fans.

Manager isn't more than +/- 3 games over a 162 game season. These are grown men, rah rah little league bullshit isn't winning games at the MLB level.

Marte's coming back was supposed to "save" the Reds season? Yeah, that .136 average, striking out on pitches a little leaguer wouldn't swing at, and defense thar is...offensive. Impressive.

Between lineup construciton, in-game management, and running the clubhouse, I would probably lean towards a bigger impact than that, but it's impossible to quantify.

After his good first game back Redlegnation and Twitter made it sound like we had Brooks Robinson in the lineup now and the season was saved. My warnings of his god awful rehab stint and maybe he needed more time in the minors to get right was scoffed at to put it nicely.

Only so many ways you can shuffle a lineup that has routinely featured 3-4 sub .200 hitters. Clubhouse seems to be fine, bunch of good dudes who seem to get along. Solid camaraderie. Has Bell really been that bad in terms of bullpen use? With the DH a lot of the strategy of pinch hitting has been wiped away, and he platoon pinch hits our platoon players just fine from what i've seen. If Sparky Anderson was managing this club, I don't know if they'd even be at .500 right now.

Pretty sure there were a few on here who said we just need to stay close until Marte comes back. RedsZone had a lot of folks with high expectations as well.

There's just not enough offense here. Too many injuries, too many guys not producing.

I was skeptical of the signing, but was hoping to be wrong. this far? Nope.

Montas was always a curious choice. A starting pitcher coming off shoulder surgery with a history of illegal performance enhancing drug use. Seems like a higher level of risk than the team needed, especially given how much volatility should/could have been expected from relying so heavily on young players; the team needed certainty and reliability.
Obviously, Montas hasn't paid off yet and it's not promising that he will.

I loved all the bullpen signings we did in the off-season, I was much more dubious giving multi year contracts to Montas and Jeimer. Jeimer is at least hitting a bit, but he's also basically a DH or negative defender at either IF corner at this point.
