Travieso pitched again on Friday, arguably even better this time. 5 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 6 K. He threw 68 pitches, 43 for strikes. Stephen Johnson pitched after him, allowing a hit in a scoreless inning. He has yet to give up a run through 6.2 innings, although his 1 K isn't very impressive. Blandino finally did something, getting 2 hits, raising his average to .161. Get excited! Mlb network will air the peoria game friday! How awesome!

Ervin had another huge day on Tuesday. More huge than last. 3/6 with 2 singles and a grand slam. 6 RBIs, 2 runs scored. He suddenly has his average up to .293. It was his first homerun. Ervin also stole his 8th base in the AFL, and had an outfield assist.
Blandino went 2/4 with 2 runs scored and a BB. Average up to .200.
Wallach went 0/4, and is hitting .050. Ouch.
Layne Somsen struck out 3 in 1.1 IP, with 1 H and 1 BB.
Zack Weiss pitched 1 inning with 2 H, 1 ER, and 2 K.

The AFL is over, aside from a championship game that the Peoria Javelins aren't playing in. mlb.mlb.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?t=t_ibp&sid=l119&cid=490&y=2015RHP Nick Travieso had the best AFL season... 22 IP, 19 H, 5 ER, 1 HR, 3 BB, 20 K. 1.00 WHIP, 2.05 ERA. RHP Stephen Johnson also did well... 8 games, 12.1 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 1 HR, 2 BB, 8 K. 0.49 WHIP, 0.73 ERA. RHP Zack Weiss did so-so... 9 games, 9 IP, 11 H, 6 ER, 1 BB, 11 K. 1.33 WHIP, 6.00 ERA. Terrible ERA, but such a great BB:K ratio that it's hard for me to say that he did badly. RHP Layne Somsen did fine... 9 games, 10.2 IP, 11 H, 4 ER, 4 BB, 13 K. 1.41 WHIP, 3.38 ERA. OF Phil Ervin had the best season among the hitters... 67 AB, .209 average, .299 OBP, 4 2b, 1 HR, 7 BB, 11 K, 8 SB. On the down side he obviously had trouble hitting and getting on base. On the bright side his strikeout rate was one of the lower ones on his team, while he was near the top for walks. He stole a bunch of bases and showed some plate discipline. 2b Alex Blandino had a disappointing season... 63 AB, .175 average, .246 OBP, 2 2B, 2 3B, 0 HR, 5 BB, 19 K. He stuck out more than I expected, walked less than I expected, and hit far worse than I expected. C Chad Wallach had 30 AB with 1 BB and 7 K. .133 average, .212 OBP. Peoria's starting catcher (Chance Sisco) did much better, while the third catcher's (Joseph Odor) numbers were nearly identical to or worse than Wallach's. Nevertheless a very disappointing showing from a bat-first catcher. Travieso probably had the best season of any Peoria Javelina. James Paxton struck out more batters, but his other numbers were much worse. The only hitter to bat above .278 had half as many ABs as other guys, and didn't walk all season. I can't really identify a single hitter on the Javelinas who did well. A few did better than Ervin, but not by much.

I don't know if anyone has noticed , but both Sebastian Elizalde and Kevin Garcia are having nice off-seasons. Elizalde 's may be the home cooking in Mexico. I hadn't even heard of Garcia before. He did hit ,317 for Billings last year and he does not strike out a lot. What is nice is that both are outfielders. Neither is a top prospect. That actually may be good.

I don't hold the level of competition in the Mexican League in very high regard. I think success there is pretty meaningless, relative to Sebastian Elizalde's performance in full season ball.
Elizalde now has a .317 OBP in advanced A ball over 194 games, and he's now 24. I'm not impressed.
