DeSclafani regressed his way to seven shutout innings against the Cardinals tonight. Have we put him in the bullpen yet? Blatant mismanagement by Bryan Price.

in 2 starts vs STL Desclafani has gone 13 IP, 2 earned runs, 12 K and 3 BB.
in 3 starts vs PIT Desclafani has gone 17 IP, 6 earned runs, 12 K and 7 BB (most of those came from 1 start)
in 3 starts vs CHI Desclafani has gone 18.1 IP, 2 earned runs, 15 K and 6 BB
in 1 start vs MIL Desclafani went 8 IP, 0 earned runs, 5 K and 1 BB
So, we have a pitcher who is DOMINATING the central division. And has really only had 3 bad starts (6 ER vs Giants, Tribe and Twins...inflating his non-central ERA)
Desclafani is owning the NL Central. That's absolutely worth keeping in the rotation.

Is it too early to nominate this for thread of the year?

Is it too early to nominate this for thread of the year? Seconded. Probably the most unfounded and nonsensical thread of the year. Quality reading. Quality predictions. Quality entertainment.

How stupid of me to even suggest that Red's pitchers deemed as starters now by the organization would not ultimately be starters.

...I believe all will ultimately be bullpen arms. The Reds have NO starter prospects. How stupid of me to even suggest that Red's pitchers deemed as starters now by the organization would not ultimately be starters. What you said is that the Reds have no starting prospects. So yes, it was fairly ludicrous. Long term, I think Itpesias, Stephenson, Reed, Desclafani, Lamb, Garrett, and Travieso will all have a solid shot at starting. I haven't given up on Finnegan starting either, he has the arm talent if the Reds have patience. Same with Lorenzen, albeit we need arm talent in the bullpen too, so I wouldn't be shocked to see him and Finnegan there. There's only five spots, and Homer Bailey we'll be back next year at some point, so the Reds should have some strong arms for the pen going forward.

Some really good stuff from Eno Sarris about Disco, Iglesias and even Lamb. Seems like it would take some luck to have a "strong staff" as early as next season, but not impossible by any means...

I still like his stuff. Obviously, he's had mostly poor results since the first four games or so, but seeing what he did to Carpenter in the first inning last night makes me want to give him a chance next year in an open competition ST. Maybe he can't do it consistently, but he's such a steal if he can ever harness all those pitches...
