Ervin with a 2 HR night tonight. He now has 6 HR in 19 games in the pitcher friendly FSL. That's 44 over a 140 game minor league season, and he's hitting .343 so far. He won't keep that kind of torrid pace up, but if he doesn't slow down he'll be in AA after the FSL all star game at the latest.

Anyone (especially The Duke) know anything about Brian O'Grady? It's hard to find much about him as far as as a detailed scouting report or anything. Does he have any future, and if so, at what position, playing the odd combo of CF and 1b.
This season he's not hitting at all in Dayton - 11/61 for a .180 average, yet still has a .354 OBP, due to 17 BBs and 15 Ks. He's perfect in 8 stolen base attempts. He had a decent debut last season for Billings.
Is there room for him to improve hitting, or is he just an advanced college hitter who knows what NOT to swing at, but can't hit anything he should swing at? It seems odd to me that someone can walk so much and hit so little.

O'Grady is org filler, a four year D-1 starter who lacks the power or speed necessary to ever be a successful big leaguer, he's a good athlete with a good eye but has an extremely low ceiling and is best suited in LF/1B. Which should be self explanatory since he's days away from turning 23 and playing in A ball.

He had a nice run in Billings last season, but that was largely him being at or near his ceiling as a finished product in a low level league. He's a gamer, but the tools aren't there.

Keyvius Sampson made his 2015 debut last night, starting for Pensacola. He pitched 4 innings with 1 ER, 5 H, 4 BB, and 3 K. Not bad, not great. It is great, in my opinion, that he's healthy enough to pitch again though. I hope he pitches well and earns a spot in the Reds bullpen.
Phil Ervin reached base 3 times again last night, to nobody's surprise, raising his average to .351 and OBP to .430. At this point he's almost making a mockery of Florida State League pitching. Hopefully his numbers improve further (maybe .400 average?) before his inevitable promotion out of Daytona.

Would much rather stick him in the AAA bullpen. I know when they signed him though he made it clear he preferred a starting role and I know Jocketty said he would be a starter but given the current state of the bullpen I was hoping that would have changed.

I'm surprised too. I assume they're just trying to get him back into shape after time on the DL, and they felt like they had an opening in Pensacola and a chance for some reps. If starting is a temporary assignment for him, fine. Matt Magill was recently activated and inserted into Louisville's rotation, despite his value also seemingly being as a reliever. The Bats already ditched Chris Carpenter and some others from the bullpen, hopefully Daniel Cabrera and Donovan Hand are out before too long also, to be replaced by a healthy and effective Magill and Sampson.

Between double headers and promotions both Louisville and Pensacola have been scrambling to find starters this past week. One or both might end up beck in the bullpen in short order.

Robert Stephenson had probably the ugliest start of his career tonight - 0.2 innings, 6 ER, 3 H, 4 BB, 1 K. His ERA is up to 8.31. Before this it looked like some silver linings could be found in his 2015 season, even if not necessarily reflected in his ERA.
Matt Magill made his second start for Louisville, he's now given up 9 ERs in 9.2 innings. He gave up 3 of the runs tonight in his final inning. I hope he moves to the bullpen sooner rather than later.

In 154 innings at AA Stephenson has now walked 85.

One guy (who I don't like very much) who has pitched pretty well at Louisville is Dylan Axelrod. He's now made 4 starts, pitching 25.2 innings with a 2.10 ERA. He has 5 BB and 19 Ks, but a 0.94 WHIP. At 29 years old he's not a prospect or anything, but I (now) hope he stays in the organization in case they need another starter later this season. You know, after turning to Iglesias and Moscot.
After Ivan DeJesus got off to an impressive start I'm surprised to see that Irving Falu has quietly caught up. DeJesus is now hitting .348 with a .414 OBP, while Falu is hitting .375 with a .408 OBP. At this point it's hard to determine which of the two is more deserving of a callup.

If he's starting in the majors for an extended period of time , then the Reds have serious issues. Call up both, DFA Schumaker and Negron. And for God's sake, put Mesoraco on the DL.

Axelrod gave up 2 homeruns in the first inning tonight... It's because I said he was doing well. I was trying to curse him, and it worked.
