Sam Fuld gets a single to go along with his nice defensive play to cut the ball off and prevent runners from advancing on Butler's single.

And, Fuld evidently did something dumb on the bases.

Norris not doing much to frame pitches so far. Thought he could've done a better job on the 2nd ball thrown to Aoki.

Good idea to move Cain up in the order too, seemed like they had him in the lower third of the order most of the season, bit of a waste. 3-2 Royals in the third...

That AB by Coco Crisp seemed to really drive home the impact of umpires now calling the low strike. Shields pounded the very bottom of the zone, Crisp couldn't really do anything with it.

Now that's hitting the bottom of the zone on Crisp to end the fifth, perfect pitch...

The A's would be wise to get something going now. The Royals bullpen is no joke. If the Royals hold onto this lead, then the game is about to get much shorter.

Just five innings from Shields... This is how all SPers should be handled in the playoffs.

Just five innings from Shields... This is how all SPers should be handled in the playoffs. Yeah, worked out brilliantly. At the rate baseball is going, there shouldn't even be starting pitchers any more. Every day is a bullpen day. Why pay a starting pitcher $20M if he's only good for 5 innings pitched in the biggest game of the year? They either need to be pitched more or paid less.

Did they replace him with a relief specialist? Nope.

The relief specialist has now allowed three hits and 2 more runs to score.
