So.....what's the takeway from this postseason? You want a kickass bullpen like the Royals? You want a stud #1 starter like Bumgarner?

Bumgarner's the first pitcher to win three games in a Series since Mickey Lolich did it in 1968. I'll take the shutdown bullpen over the 46-year wonder...

If Affeldt is out there in the 5th I think they lose. I still think if the Royals started Duffy over Guthrie they would have won the series.

I always thought that the rule stated if a starting pitcher didn't make five innings the official scorer could decide which relief pitcher got the win. Normally the first guy brought on works more then a inning in that case so its a easy call this time though the win was clearly Bumgardner's and to not give him one is just being lazy.

I always thought that the rule stated if a starting pitcher didn't make five innings the official scorer could decide which relief pitcher got the win. This would certainly serve justice better. I guess a starting pitcher who fails to last five innings (or a successor removed for ineffectiveness: less than an inning/2 or more earned runs) are the only ones who don't get the win for being in the game when the winning run scores. Affeldt pitched well (2 and a third scoreless) and gets the win by rule, but Bumgarner's obviously the winning pitcher...
