I have no idea why Alex Gordon is batting 6th. Strange.

I wonder if Shields did Moss a favor by throwing him changeups. Maybe, with his hip problems, he'd be better off with heaters. In his account of his slump, he said he had problems with high strikes, tends to pop them up with his swing... Interesting. That interview is still on my list of things to read. Seems like a curious thing to openly discuss, but I guess the Royals didn't bother reading it.

Dunn striking out in 50% of his career AB's against Shields might have been the dealbreaker on that lineup.

A's middle infield defense not looking great.

It's a good interview, he's an interesting hitter: he did imply that location and the problem of chasing were more important in his slump than the types of pitches...

Billy Butler is really, really slow. To NOT get to second on that hit. That's something.

What the holy hell was that? Billy Butler randomly wanders off first base? ?

James Shields really has good sink on his changeup.

I have no idea why Alex Gordon is batting 6th. Strange. I have no idea why Hosmer is permitted by the authorities to run the bases. He's like the Reds wrapped into one guy.

James Shields really has good sink on his changeup. His changeup is criminally underrated .

Whatever Jon Lester just threw to Omar Infante was nasty. Slider or cutter. Omar fell down trying to swing at it.

Moss is injured, I don't think starting him at cleanup against a good rhp gives the A's their best chance to win; Dunn should be dh... I suspect that the A's acquired Lester so that they wouldn't have to be in the Wild Card game, but now that they are this game seems like a referendum on the Cespedes trade. Not often that you get that kind of immediate and explicit grade on a trade. Now that I think about it, this game will also be a referendum on the Royals' Wil Myers/James Shields trade. Depending on who wins, that fan base will be able to justify the moves of their GM. Not sure I agree, if they manage to win and get trounced in the next round - and he walks next month - did the Royals get the better end of that deal? Did they trade Myers for one game?

Geovany Soto injures thumb tagging out Eric Hosmer. He's out, Derek Norris in. A's offense gets better, ability to control the running game gets worse.
