I'm pulling for suarez and i know his d is not the greatest but his sticks been good. Younger than cozart and under team control longer and cheaper.I just think cozart was having a fluke season at the plate and he was given plenty of time to take the ss position over and never proved he was the future for the reds.

I think (keyword think) most people on this board would side with Suarez do to those main reasons you pointed out, specifically age and cost. Unfortunately, I can't see management taking this side because I'm not really sure what else you would do with Cozart

Both have value and will be on the 25-man roster. The Cozart injury might actually end up being a benefit, if he returns 100%. Suarez was just going through the motions at AAA, but is clearly a major league caliber player. Maybe not a starting SS, but it's a complete joke that a guy like him couldn't get a crack, but Chris Dominguez made the opening day roster and Marlon Byrd cost us 8M in LF.

If mesoraco is in lf and Suarez ends up hitting 280 plus to end the season I can't see anyway the reds can keep him out of the starting lineup in 2016!! I think if Byrd keeps hitting decent someone will trade for him in august.

Suarez is giving quality at bats instead of trying to play hero he realizes that a sac fly works to a productive out.

If they don't move Suarez off ss, and Cozart ends up on the bench, he might have some value as a situational hitter, spot starter, and defensive replacement. He has decent numbers against lhps, and he's about the same price Reds have been paying veteran bench players...
Probably wouldn't bring much back in a trade...

the only reason I would want cozart, is if he could hit like he did this year. I don't think that's going to happen, so I want the yout

Cozart's transformation this year is remarkable, going from a fan punching bag to a fan favorite to a tragic hero. I mean, Price's statement early in spring training that Cozart was the starting shortstop was generally received very badly. Jocketty, Price, and Dusty before him were criticized for years for sticking with Cozart, believing he could hit. For years I was on the unpopular side of arguing that he was indeed one of the best 30 shortstops in baseball.
Now... he's gotta return! He had a great season! Woah! How sad he got hurt! ...How things change. It's truly remarkable. It's hard to identify another Reds player who was so unpopular for so long, before having such a drastic and abrupt turnaround.
And Chris Dominguez didn't make the roster ahead of Eugenio Suarez because they thought the former was better, they made it abundantly clear that their priority was having Suarez play every day. They thought that - Suarez playing every day - was the best thing for him, and it seems like they were right. Not only did they keep him ready to replace Cozart, but he has seemingly made some improvements (offensively) from last year. It seems like in hindsight if anyone values Suarez's career, the Reds have handled him well so far.
Eugenio Suarez is having a great season for the Reds, but it's largely driven by an unsustainable .379 BABIP. His BABIP is a whopping .457 with runners on base, and .333 with runners in scoring position. He's gotten lucky a lot, especially in big situations, he doesn't just have some 'on' switch in big situations, because he's that good of a hitter. He's a lucky hitter, not a great hitter. He might even be a very good hitting shortstop... but using him in LF is a terrible idea, in my opinion. He won't hit enough to play LF. They already have light-hitting guys in the organization who can play LF in 2016, like Yorman Rodriguez, Kyle Waldrop, and now Adam Duvall. To some extent Suarez is this year's version of 2014's Kristopher Negron, just Suarez has both a higher ceiling and higher floor offensively.
I guess I expect that Suarez will enter 2016 as a super-sub, like Frazier at the start of his career, covering SS, 2b, 3b, and even LF on occasion... with Frazier backing up for Votto. He'll just have to bet on somebody getting hurt. Or perhaps some situation where he's the starting shortstop, but also the top utility player, with Cozart entering the lineup at shortstop when another infielder is out. Cozart has played every inning of his career at shortstop, and I expect that to continue.... while I expect Suarez to be asked to move around a lot, I don't expect Cozart to move around at all. Cozart's primary role will seemingly be to prove that he's healthy enough to trade for.

I fully support Cozart starting at SS on Opening Day 2016.

I am all for Cozart being our starting SS Opening Day 2016.......if Suarez is injured and can't man the position.
Cozart is a great defender and will be a great late inning replacement in the field for Suarez.

I just used Dominguez...because terrible.
What I disagreed with, was the premise that the Reds need to continually go out and spend 2-4M on relievers and bench players, when there are cost-effective options in the system. Not saying every prospect should be developed on the bench, but I think it would've been smart to keep Suarez up considering he has big league experience and plays the same position as by far the weakest position player in the lineup coming into the season.
