The Tigers isn't Cobb. That's interesting. I guess that instead of going for one of the remaining obvious ones, I'll guess Hanley Ramirez for the Marlins. Close Hanley is number 4 on their all time list. Lark's guess of Kotsay was 20th. Remember the Marlins haven't been around all that long and have a history of not keeping players past their first five years.

That's why I went with Hanley because I was trying to do the math about how long other notable Marlins had been with the team, and thought that they held onto him a little longer than the others. I'll probably go back to guessing the Marlin in a few days if no one got him by then, but since I don't want to knock out an obvious one, I'll instead guess Zack Wheat for the Dodgers. Or at least I don't think you said anything about excluding pre-1900 players, since I'm assuming Wheat was one.

Wheat though wasn't a pre-1900 player played from 1909 to 1927 with most of his career with the Brooklyn Dodgers, played his last year with the A's, a team that included Ty Cobb and Eddie Collins in their final seasons as well. Cobb had one more in the tank, Collins had three (though really didn't play much the last two years 36 games, 9 games, 3 games)

Yep for all their history the White Sox haven't had many lifer types. Konkero is within 200 games, and might have claimed this if he were traded to the Sox earlier. Fox is the only other Sox with over 2000 games, Thomas came close with 1959

Rockies -- Todd Helton Marlins -- Charles Johnson Indians -- Earl Averill Braves -- Chipper Jones Even though you can't seem to follow the one guess a day rule I'll allow it. Helton is easily the Rockies leader, I believe he has double the second guy. Charles Johnson is 12th on the Marlins list with around 587 games. Chipper Jones is the Braves number 2. Again you really should kick yourself for this one. When you think Braves do you really think Chipper. Averill is 8th on the Indians list. The guy that is on top is not going to be confused with a hall of famer or even a all star, but even worse the White Sox the Indians have never really had a lifer that had a long career. Their top guy is likely one of the worst of the teams that have any real history, and many are within 100 games of him with the Indians.

Just for clarification, do games played before 1900 count?

Just for clarification, do games played before 1900 count? IF the team still plays today, and they consider it part of their history they count.

but even worse the White Sox the Indians have never really had a lifer that had a long career. For the record, Appling wasn't a poor man's anything. He's in the Hall of Fame...

Agreed one of the games greatest shortstops. Just meant that if you look at other teams that have been around that long they all have a number of players with over 2000 games.

Good question, by the by. Sigh 1 answer per day Lark. Ah, hell, I get it now, I thought you meant one batch of guesses per day, rather than a single name per day.
