Any preliminary feeling on it?
I've got mine, but am curious to get your take.

Its very hard to say of course but I will go with a B- right now
Not great not bad in a year when the talent was not out there it looks like we decided early to really let are scouts work and maybe some of those mid rd picks are sleepers.

Yeah, to be honest, I'm not very impressed.
The more I think about it, the more Alonso seems like an unusual choice. He really seems like a bad body player. He may well be a strong hitter, but he might actually be slower than Paul Konerko (which I didn't think was possible). In addition, he's not a good defensive first baseman, so I'm not sure where he won't be a liability. First base is the absolute bottom of the defensive spectrum and he's average at best over there.
I'm looking forward to seeing him hit in the CWS, but I'm just not sold on the pick. I would rather have continued our trend of picking strong athletes with good baseball IQs at premier defensive positions.
In addition, this draft really illustrates how detrimental the loss of a 2nd round pick can be. I'm not sold on Alonso in round 1. I don't like a college closer in round 3. And, I think Shonick's mechanics are poor. I don't know anything about Cline, but Alex Buchholz intrigues me.
I love the addition of Juan Duran, but the front office can't sell him as being part of the draft haul. As of now, I'm not a big fan of this draft.

Well we will have to disagree on this then.....This draft was fine for what they had to go with. I am sold on Alonso he is in way better shape then you give him credit for and he has a strong work ethic as well (He works out with Arod)
I watched him last night and I was very very impressed. He has power to all fields and you can tell he is already a pro style hitter. he takes alot of pitches drives the ball the other way and I think will hit for power and average at the next level. I will go out on a limb and say he is the best hitter in this draft IMO. As far as going more athletic like we have in the past (Bruce, stubbs, Mesaraco) thats all fine and good but this kid who you find slow will be driving all 3 of these guys in IMO.
lol
Lets hope it works out I think Alonso can hit falling outof bed I dont care if he is slow. Hit him 4th and let him drive guys in !
I am also looking forward to Busholtz ! I knew you would catch that...this kid fell down the draft board due to a bad year but he had shin injury.

Well, I don't understand why we didn't grab Tim Melville instead of Stewart. He is one of the top H.S. starting pitchers in the draft. I also would've preferred Brandon Crawford or Tim Murphy.

I would agree thats what"I" woudl have done but we are not Reds scouts. They must have liked the other guys better and over the last 4-5 years they have been drafting well so I cant argue with it. As for Crawford Melvile and others they fell for a reason. What that reason is I dont know

Another kid I think could be fun to keep an eye on is the puckett kid.
Look in my other draft thread at his stats. He has some pop in the bat and plays Short.

I wish we could've gotten Cutter Dykstra. I think he's got potential to be a very strong offensive player.
As for Stewart, have you heard whether the Reds view him as a potential starter? Or, just a fast climbing, polished reliever?

I have not heard anything on stewart yet but I would think they would at least start him in rotation in order for him to get more work on a 3rd pitch. They did that with a few otherguys in the past. Who knows he could stick in rotation but I like the 95-97 mph fastball.

Who knows he could stick in rotation but I like the 95-97 mph fastball. Maybe so, but I'm always hesitant to use high draft picks on relievers. I'm just not convinced it's the way to go. For me, relievers are pitchers who couldn't cut it in the rotation. So, I'm not sure you should just draft a pitcher who is already a reliever, especially in the 3rd round.

For some reason it was become the in thing to draft college relief pitchers. There was a run on them in rd 1 this year. At least we waited untill rd 3

For some damn reason, I'm stuck with University of Miami vs. Arizona, when I was promised Stanford vs. Cal State Fullerton. At least I got to see Yonder hit and he managed to get an aluminum bat base hit to left in the first. I hope weight doesn't become a problem for Yonder, because he already looks pudgy.
Still, the Hurricanes are in trouble. Down 0-1 in the series and 4-0 in the 2nd inning of game 2.

I am glad I hope they dont win so we can get Alonso signed. Alonso's hit was against a lefty as well.I dont think he will have any issues against lefty's so thats another reason I dont mind the lefty hitter getting drafted.Bruce and Votto have no problems either.
Dunn is as good as gone I think now........Dunn is way to streaky. As soon as I want to sign him he stinks and I change my mind.

Yonder goes down swinging against a big curveball.
Yonder is reminding me a bit of Erubiel Durazo. Patient, power hitters with questionable defense and speed.
