I guess Jocketty wanted to ensure that the Dunn debate continued to rage long after Dunn departs the scene.
Yonder is a similar type player, but likely a higher average.
It wasn't the most impressive homer, but the AB showed pretty good control of the zone. The check swing was ugly stuff, but it certainly ended well.

Well He would have hit a hr last night as well to win the game but the wind was blowing in from right and knocked it down.
The kid has a sweet swing and knows how to set up an ab IMO

Has he played in the Cape Cod league? It doesn't look like he has a metal bat swing, but I'll be curious to see how well his power translates to wood.

well like you said he played in capre Cod and in fact was rated as the #2 best prospect leading the league in doubles and was 2nd in hr's I believe. Your right though some guys have that metal bat type long swing not Alonso...His swing is very short and he has a quick bat.
Very strong kid

I read this about Alonso in the Cape league: "Named a 2007 Cape Cod League All-Star and earned All-Cape Cod League honors after hitting .338 for the Brewster Whitecaps with a team-high 51 hits, which included 12 doubles and four home runs, 25 RBI and 36 walks. He owned a .468 on-base percentage and slugged .497. Alonso led the Cape in on-base percentage and had the third-best batting average. He ranked second in the league in total hits and doubles ."

I watched him last night and I was very very impressed. He has power to all fields and you can tell he is already a pro style hitter. he takes alot of pitches drives the ball the other way and I think will hit for power and average at the next level. I saw only one of Alonso's ABs last night and he made an out. It was still very impressive. He worked the count and he hit a ball to left field that was only about a foot foul or it would have been a HR. His swing looked very professional. Of course, the sound of those aluminum bats constantly startles you when you watch a college game
