I wanted Casey Kelly and that hasn't changed. Not the popular pick among pundits or Reds' fans, but I think he's going to be a good one. He could be a 20 HR shortstop with plus defense, plus arm, and plus baseball intelligence.
As much as I dislike the Red Sox, I think that's probably the right organization for Kelly. They'll develop him right. They have a very strong player development philosophy and will teach Kelly a patient, disciplined approach at the plate. In a few years, Kelly will pay big dividends for the BoSox.

Kelly would have been a reach IMO I liked the kid the twins got as well Aaron Hicks
A top CF prospect with a 96 mph fastball as a pitcher. He can do it all !

I don't buy into "the reach" very much, because there is so much uncertainty in the MLB draft. You find the guy you like and roll with him. I like Kelly quite a bit.

I would agree with that lark
thats why I dont find Yonder a reach ;D
I do like Kelly alot He coudl ptich or play short but he could also outgrow short and if he does will he hit enough to play 2b or 3rd ?
But a great talent yes......
What do you think of Hicks?

The Twins scout who recommended Hicks was John Leavitt. I was surprised we didn't give Hicks a bit of a look, especially when there didn't appear to be any top flight pitchers that fit the bill. But, we went the college, corner infielder route. If we were to stick with the focus on premier defensive position prospects, then Hicks would've been worth a look.

Hurricanes crank a 2 run homer to narrow the gap to 4-3.

Crap they better not win !
lol
back to hicks....I agree in fact even though I was goign to Alonso who I am happy to get I held out hope for Hicks.
He is just a talented kid compared to a young Strawbery ! I mean that is some kind of comparison at a young age coming out of the L.A area. He has a great arma nd can flat run in CF as well,.

Yeah, it was odd to see us go the Yonder route, because Chris Buckley has focused substantially on well rounded players (Mesoraco, Stubbs, Frazier, etc).
But, Yonder's bat made them change course. Hopefully, Buckley is right on this one.
Hicks certainly would've been intriguing. Given our needs and track record, I thought a Kelly/Hicks type High School prospect would've made a lot of sense.

Alonso takes a couple of tough curveballs that just missed the zone.
He took a 3-0 fastball for strike 1.
He then gets eaten up on a bad check swing for strike 2.
Then, follows it with a 3 run homer to right that bounced off the top of the wall for a 7-4 Miami lead.
