Most high K pitchers will always have high pitch counts. Does he need to get better? Yes. But he will almost always have to throw a lot of pitches. It took Cueto a few years in the bigs until he got more pitch efficient. Development doesn't stop once you are in the majors.

Striking out all 27 batters in a perfect game takes a minimum of 81 pitches. Something to aspire to as far as pitch efficiency.

But even if it's only a little and he's still striking out 10 a night....I'm perfectly okay with that

Stephenson laid a bit of an egg tonight. Can't give anything of a first hand account of the game, I didn't go but intended to listen to it. Was busy until a bit after 8 and when I tuned in he was already out of the game. He lasted 5 innings, gave up 6 earned runs. 7 hits including a double a triple and a homer. 2 walks and 4 K's and had a wild pitch.

...On the bright side he only walked 2 batters in 5 innings... walks, not hits, have been his biggest problem this year. This (7) was the most hits he's given up in a game this year, the previous high being 6. Overall by far the worst start for Stephenson since May 1st, but it looks like a fluke rather than a continuation of a problem.

Robert Stephenson started again tonight - 6 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 4 BB, 5 K. 96 pitches, 60 strikes.
His third start in Louisville, not as good as the first but much better than the second. He's now given up 13 hits in 17 innings in AAA, with 7 BB and 14 K, I think.

I definitely wouldn't bring him up until late May early/early June of next year. He still needs to work on control and command, and if we aren't competing in 2016, there is no point in starting his arbitration clock a year earlier than we have to.

Another strong outing for Stephenson. 6 innings, 3 hits, 1 ER, 5 Ks and 2 walks. Still believe he needs to finish this season and start next in AAA, but the optimism has returned in full force. He's been outstanding for an extended stretch now.

Robert Stephenson returned from the DL tonight. They said he'd be out for a few days with a minor forearm injury, and he apparently came back without also needing Tommy John surgery, a new shoulder, or an amputation.
4 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 2 K. 79 pitches, 49 strikes. Not his best start, after the time off, but I suppose a scoreless performance has to be considered something of a success.

Per Mark Sheldon: • The Reds' No. 2 prospect, Robert Stephenson, came off of the disabled list on Thursday to start for Louisville and pitched four scoreless innings. Stephenson, who hadn't pitched since Aug. 12 because of a right forearm strain, gave up four hits and two walks with two strikeouts. He is under consideration for a September call-up next week.

Some reports say wrist, some say forearm. Either way, something between his hand and elbow which isn't typically a major injury risk. The most important part is that he's seemingly over it and healthy.

Does Bob Steve even know what his injury was?
