Wow. Last time out he walked 5 batters before getting the second out of the game, then retired 11 of the next ~13 outs by strikeouts...
Today 1 BB and 10 Ks. Sure his strikeout ratio went down from 11 K in 4.2 IPs to 10 K in 7 IP, but I'll take it.
Hopefully something clicked in the first inning last week and it's the start of a trend... towards good control and dominant strikeout numbers. I'm now anxiously awaiting his next start, rather than looking to it with dread.

So, he still needs to work on consistency but the last 2 starts are reminders that it is all there when he can put it together. Hope is a powerful thing. He's still just 22.

Pitching like an a top prospect. I wonder what they did or said to help him straighten things out.

Nice. This should do wonders for his confidence. 6 H/BB in his last 15 innings.

He's always given up less hits than innings pitched, but it's better then ever this year, and if he solves the walks issue for good, he is dominant.

Unbelievable work by Stephenson. Four consecutive really strong performances... five if you include the one where he walked a bunch of guys in the first inning before striking out 11 guys in the next 4.1 innings.
I wonder how many more starts like this it'll take before they consider promoting him to Louisville. They can certainly find an opening in Louisville's rotation after that team lost Magill, Lorenzen, Iglesias, and Moscot in various ways. They're down to Josh Smith, Axelrod, Holmberg, and relievers like Donovan Hand and Layne Somsen.

I find it strange that Somsen, Hand, and Sampson are starting when guys like Travieso, Garrett, and Astin deserve to go to Pensacola and a lot of Dayton's rotation deserves to go to Daytona. Also, what happened to Jonathan Crawford and Ismael Guillon?

Also, what happened to Jonathan Crawford and Ismael Guillon? those promotions typically don't happen until they have replacements to go to Dayton. Those two you mentioned are injured - extended spring training still

Jonathan Crawford is in Arizona rehabbing an injury. Guillon I heard was hurt, but I haven't heard any news about him rehabbing like I have with Crawford.
Travieso is only 21 and in his first year in High A. He made the FSL All Star team, so he'll be there at least through then.
Garrett and Romano have been up and down in Daytona. Both have flashed dominance, but then got rocked their next start out.
I could see Travieso and Astin move up around July 1, Antone and Varner taking their place in Daytona.

I've been following Seth Varner a bit and he's had fairly rough outings in 4 or his last 5 starts. Not blowouts, but in only 2 of his past 5 starts did he pitch over 4 innings. I assumed we'd probably expect to see Tyler Mahle, rather than Varner, accompany Tejay Antone to Daytona.
Barrett Astin has sure, quietly, been quite a surprise since coming over for Jonathan Broxton.
I'm looking forward to Jonathan Crawford making his long-awaited debut, I assume it would be for Daytona.
