The Blue Wahoos twitter account just tweeted this out: I'm not entirely sure what they were trying to say with it, but the second grouping seems as bad as the first grouping, save the worse hit luck. Both samples consist of 17.1 IP. I continue to be surprised that Stephenson's control/command issue isn't deemed a bigger problem by pundits.

Tough to be effective at the major league level when you walk around the same or more as you strike out. Especially when the walks are approaching one a inning.
Might be getting close to time to see what he can do in a pen role.

He's starting to look more and more like a reliever. Given expectations, he's a bust in my book if he ends up in the pen, no matter how he performs.

Agreed. With Cueto likely out, we're going to need a frontline starter if we want to contend over the next 1-3 years. Homer should recover from TJS, but he's always been more of a mediocre #2, good #3. Lorenzen and Iglesias look promising, but just how high is their ceiling? Do either have what it takes to be an anchor? I'm higher on Iglesias than most, but I'm not sure if either can. The rest of the system is filled with guys who likely top out as a #3-4 pitcher. Stephenson has the most upside of any pitcher in the system. It's just not looking very promising that he'll realize it.

True aces don't grow on trees. They are not replaceable. It may be 30 years before the farm system develops another Johnny Cueto. Of course, the issue now (for me, probably for others for longer) is that $25-30M ace on a shitty team is pointless. If the Reds could build a decent team back up by 2017 or 2018, I'd still be all in on Cueto. I don't see it. I think it will be 2019 if we are very lucky. Who knows how good Johnny will be by then and shelling out $90M in the interim on a loser team just doesn't make sense.

Also, to Lark's point, it doesn't get any more "don't look behind the curtain" than that tweet. His walk rate has actually gotten worse. Nick Howard looks at that line and says, "See! I'm still a top prospect!"

Stephenson with another ugly stat line yesterday. Did have 11 k's which is impressive considering he only pitched 4 2/3 innings. 5 walks though.

The entire minor league system needs a flush down the toilet. Coaches, instructors, scouts....all of 'em. You're fired. You failed. Not only did you fail, but you failed miserably.
