A bump for Stephenson may be good for his confidence, but is there really any meaningful difference between AA and AAA in terms of his development? I assume we will see him start a game or three in Cincy in September anyway. Will 12 starts in AAA rather than AA help his development at all? I would think you could keep him in AA for this season, call him up and give him a few starts (or bullpen innings) in the bigs in september, then start him out in AAA next year as a promotion if he doesn't make the Cincy rotation out of spring.
Travieso and Blandino are probably ready for promotions. Travieso is in year 3 of single A ball. No need to rush him, but he's not overwhelmed in high A either.
I'm also getting optimistic about Gavin Lavalley again. He was atrocious for the first month plus, but he's hitting .450 over the last ten games and has raised his average from .200 to .262. He should be in Dayton all season (at least), but I like the trend.

Absolutely agree that Lavalley should spend all year in Dayton. He's only 20, and it'd be nice to see him have some extended success this year. Hopefully, the power congress along a little more in the second half as well.

Regarding the question of whether a bump from AA to AAA will provide any noticeable difference for Stephenson... I think the biggest difference in a promotion from AA to AAA for Stephenson is allowing him to start the season over with a sorta fresh slate, in that he has walked 33 guys, most of which before things seemed to click. His May 1st start (0.2 IP, 4 BB, 6 ER) and May 6th start (7 BB in 6.1 IPs) are particular drags on his season, that he's still working to get past as far as his season numbers. A ball hitters couldn't hit Stephenson, advanced A ball hitters couldn't either, AA hitters can't, and I doubt AAA guys can. No matter his level in the minors I expect control (and walks), not opposing hitters (and hits), to be his primary issue.
I don't think the Reds will ever call Stephenson up unless he's the favorite to retain a rotation spot long term. I don't think they'll add him to the 40 man roster and start his service clock with the intention of sending him down. When he's up a rotation spot will be his to lose. When he's up he's up... and I think that's a primary factor potentially delaying his arrival.
Price and the Reds' recent talk about a 'youth movement' - which now also includes the call-up of Suarez - makes me think Stephenson might be called up before September. Like after the trade deadline to replace Cueto and Leake with an interesting guy with upside (Stephenson) rather than crap (Axelrod, Holmberg, Josh Smith). I think they still want people to watch the games, and I want to see Stephenson... I expect other fans do too.

4 IP, 5 H, 3 ER, 6 BB. Ugh.

4 IP, 5 H, 3 ER, 6 BB. Ugh. Another player (like Winker) who has no business being on the 25 man in September....don't start the service clock until absolutely necessary.

No need to see his service time started before May/June 2016 at the very earliest. Let him get consistent first.

He's tearing it up tonight, he made two mistake pitches that he paid for but other than that he's been excellent...
---- consistency is the key

So, 6/19/15 - 7 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 10 K. Allowed two solo homeruns.
He's now given up 8 homeruns this season through ~72.1 IP. He's given up 2 homeruns in a game twice, in his last couple of starts. In his previous 4 starts he didn't give up a homerun.

Rumor has it that Robert Stephenson has been promoted to AAA Louisville.

Is Garrett taking his spot in Pensacola?

They haven't said anything about Amir Garrett getting promoted yet. I think he deserves to. They did recently promote Barrett Astin, one of the two guys they got for Jonathan Broxton, from Daytona to Pensacola a few days ago.
In my opinion Garrett and Blandino both deserve promotions. Sal Romano might too. Travieso and Ervin probably would also, but they're both on the DL.
AA Pensacola now has a rotation of Stephenson, Astin, RHP Tim Adelman, LHP Wandy Peralta, and RHP Daniel Wright. Adelman, albeit a non-prospect, probably deserves a promotion into a Louisville rotation that they've been filling with veteran scrubs.

Stephenson starting the scheduled game tonight in Louisville. Start time TBD because they must finish yesterday's suspended game first, and it's been raining off and on all day.

Good and bad to report from Stephenson's AAA debut. He got the win and only allowed 2 runs, so there is certainly good just in that. He wasn't terribly sharp or anything remotely close to pitch efficient. Took him 95 pitches to get through 5 innings. He walked 3 and struck out 6, threw a wild pitch and allowed 3 stolen bases. I think you can give him some allowances for being his first game in AAA and, he was set to throw the first pitch when a shower opened up and the game was delayed for 50 minutes. Still, he didn't seem to have good command and certainly needs to pay more attention to holding runners on.

Better outing last night for Stephenson. Still got too high in the pitch count department, 102 in six innings of work, but that was really the only negative for the night. 6ip, 0 runs, 4 hits, 1 BB, 6 K's. Just needs to be a bit more pitch efficient in order to get into the 7th and possible beyond.

Most high K pitchers will always have high pitch counts. Does he need to get better? Yes. But he will almost always have to throw a lot of pitches.
