There's just no excuse for Phillips or Bruce to not be put on waivers. I agree as well as Pena and Chapman, but especially the two you mentioned. It's not like they can't be pulled back.

If this list is accurate the Jocko is either lazy, stupid or both. www.mlbdailydish.com/2015/8/6/9112923/mlb-waivers-listAccording to that list no Red other than Marlon Byrd was ever placed on waivers. I would have thought the entire roster would have been on waivers just to gauge interest and/or be ready for an opportunity if a player cleared. The list of players put on waivers is supposed to be secret, and is usually not reported. Does Chris Cotillo have access to that information? Unlikely, he's just going off rumors of who's cleared. Jocketty's front office is not known for leaks. It's silly to conclude that Marlon Byrd is the only one even placed on waivers. The list consists of ~40 names, out of ~1200 players on 40 man rosters around MLB. Either the list is incomplete, or on average fewer than 2 players per team have been placed on revocable waivers. The Reds are not the only team that should put 10, 20, or more players on revocable waivers to see what happens... yet the list only has ~40 names. Obviously incomplete. You're right, almost the entire roster should've been put on waivers, as it takes no effort to do so. Where is the more logical issue, the true list being secret and therefore unreported or the Reds not going through this process? Marlon Byrd clearing waivers was unreported until he was traded days later. It's silly to assume that other guys clearing waivers going unreported means the team hasn't tried.

The secret must be out, because this list looks remarkably similar: According to MLB Trade Rumors, the list (as of Saturday night) of remaining players who have cleared revocable waivers includes Aaron Harang, Hanley Ramirez, Pablo Sandoval, Starlin Castro, Austin Jackson, Jonny Gomes, Dexter Fowler, David Aardsma, Edward Mujica, Fernando Rodney, John Axford, Jose Reyes and James Shields. That is from this article on MLB.com: m.mlb.com/news/article/146278156/callups-on-horizon-with-rosters-set-to-expandSo you can dismiss it all you like, it appears Walt didn't even bother to see if there was interest out there

Woah. Even MLBTradeRumors doesn't claim that their list is complete, as players being exposed to waivers are not publicized. It doesn't 'appear' like anything. Except that it appears that the status of guys like Pena, Schumaker, and so on is yet unreported. A lack of information, in itself, is not a sign of innocence or guilt.

I know you hate to admit you are wrong but the list of 40, as you put it, included guys that were claimed and not traded. The short list was the guys that passed through. And Byrd was the only Red. Dumbass decision, or lack of one on the part of the Reds management.

A bunch of players placed on waivers today (more to come later in the week) that could help this club. I doubt the Reds claim any of them, but they should be doing their due diligence and looking at a few of them.

I am mildly surprised that no one took a flyer on Pena. Or perhaps Jocko was just asleep.
I'm not surprised that Schu is still here. He is entirely worthless. I have no problem with letting him stay around as pinch hitter given how truly dreadful our 40-man is, but he shouldn't make a single start at this point.
