New member, thanks for the approval. Looking forward to some good Reds talk. I was lurking on Redszone for years. Their registration never worked. Its not that it said "we are not accepting new member at this time" it was just that it wouldn't work. I just gave it another shot this week and it works. BUT - I get back a message saying I don't fit membership requirements. Not that they aren't accepting new members at this time but I don't fit their requirements. Yet I answered all their questions, gave them my email and birth date. I left nothing out. It cant be anything but age discrimination, there is simply no other info they have on me besides liking Bench as my all time favorite player and not being a millennial. Very weird people there. Good riddance. Again thanks for accepting my registration. Hey 1972, glad to have you! We were refugees from another board when we started this one, so you'll fit right in! It's already shaping up to be one of the more interesting Reds seasons in quite a while.

If you want snark, personal attacks and very biased moderating then RZ is the place for you. Let's all root the Reds on together in 2019!

Go Reds?!?!?
I’ll never leave this place. Although, there hasn’t been much to discuss here for years. Lark is a good dude, though. I’d let him buy me a beer.

Who knew we had RedZone moderators round these parts? Thanks for the clarification.
I'll keep my eyes peeled for "ISP advanced fee scams," whatever those are.

Well I thought it was a good thing when David Bell was hired as a a manager but, now I am not so sure. I understand trying to protect your players. But when he was ejected from last nights game and came out of the dugout to get involved in the controversial confrontation with the pirates, it shows me has a poor lack of judgement and is a hot head. I think we need a change and a new manager hired to replace him.

Lark, why is this site still vulnerable to spam posting? There's currently such post/thread up in the Reds Talk area. redlegsbaseball.proboards.com/thread/18817/th-nh-w88-hay-kh Seems to me that you can prevent this quite easily by requiring moderator approval when a new member starts a thread. It's making your site look cheap and out of control.

It's making your site look cheap and out of control. Because I think there's value to making it easy for guests to participate in discussions. Unfortunately, sometimes people take advantage of the notion of free speech in order to flood the community with false, misleading, or, in this case, advertising messages in order to advance their own personal agendas, which, when done on a grand scale, can certainly be very harmful to society. In this instance, however, I don't think a spam-bot pushing the occasional Vietnamese gambling site constitutes much of a threat to our community, nor do I think the occasional spam post makes the site look cheap or out of control. I suppose it's the price we pay for an open society. I remove them when I can, which is usually well within the same day it is posted. I can delete them from my phone, but can only ban the user from my laptop. So, sometimes they stay up until I get home to delete and ban them from my laptop. The one cited in your post was removed, but the thread stayed up because a poster responded to it; so, the response stayed up after the actual spam post was removed.

I don't think requiring moderator approval of thread starters from brand new signees to the site stifles free speech. A lot of sites require approval before a post goes live. There's a reason for that. I don't think you should do this all the time. Just initially

Need at least ten post to start a thread. Simple blocks nothing and those that want to really be part of the community here likely wouldn't start a thread for their first post anyway.
