Hi guys, Never knew this forum existed. Needed a break from the RZ board....just felt it was toxic for me at times. Welcome aboard! Glad to have you. Though I thought RZ was known for being positive and overly optimistic, so if they've gone toxic it might be a fanbase wide issue. Anyway, always good to have new perspectives and new voices. RZ has a lot of issues. The best thing I can say about them is that there are a lot people posting there. What's most frustrating is the arrogance of many of its members. They think they're God's Gift to baseball and that "you" aren't worthy. Never understood such thinking. Aren't we all just fans?

Many fans only understand their own opinion, and can't begin to comprehend that there may be ways to look at things other than their own (narrow views of Marty Brennaman, and general ignorance of Thom, sure don't help!). In my opinion many, perhaps for toxic masculinity, refuse to change their opinions even when they're totally unfounded, out of a profound need to feel 'right'. We're all fans. But some prefer logic, others prefer emotion. Many confuse emotion with logic. And some logical people just look at things differently.

It's fine to look at things differently but I have no tolerance for "I know baseball better than you do" or "my stats are better than your stats". This can be fan to fan but easy examples are public figures like Marty Brennaman or Dusty Baker. It makes no sense for a fan who may very well be typing in his mother's basement, to claim baseball superiority over folks like those men I mentioned above who've spent their lives in the game, often to the tune of entering the Hall of Fame. I'd prefer "people look at things differently" to describe Marty Brennaman to other approaches.

I'd prefer "people look at things differently" to describe Marty Brennaman to other approaches. "I've watched this sport since 19__!" "I remember back before there was free agency, now teams are so poorly run that they don't retain players!" "I watched the big red machine!" Those are all fancy ways of saying that you're probably behind the times, and not up on the complexities of modern baseball
It bothers me that so many don't even TRY to understand other opinions, and don't even try to look at decisions from the perspective of the decisionmakers. Condemning the decisions without even seeking to understand what factors probably went into them just seems silly, in my opinion. Condemning when a gamble goes badly, but taking it for granted when one goes well. But, my interest in understanding decisions and why they're made makes me an outlier, frequently accused of being too supportive of the team's decision makers. I think a decision needs to be understood to be evaluated, but that's a surprisingly uncommon view.

Well, this portion of the site is a work in progress, as I'll be trying to improve the aesthetics of it, but it's perfectly functional as of now. I'd love to get this message board up and running with some quality back and forth discussion, but it may take a while to get enough active, interested posters to make it worthwhile. A blog is fun, but it's the never ending discussion that truly makes baseball great. Anyway, put your feet up and make yourselves comfortable. If you spirit moves you, then feel free to start chatting about the blog (I'm sure I said something brilliant or stupid (yes, I know, more likely the latter) or just baseball in general. As it stands, you DO NOT need to register to post on this message board, rather just hit reply and you're off to the races. That may change in the future if this board gets popular, but for now it isn't required. There are things members can do that guests cannot, so I'd recommend registering (which is very quick and requires a simple e-mail verification), but you can join in the discussion without doing it. Unfortunately, unless I want to pay for this message board, you will see some Ads if you are using Internet Explorer, but if you use FireFox it should filter them out. So, as with the blog, I'm not making money off this site, so any ad revenue generated goes straight to the people who allow use to us this message board free of charge. Anyway, the boys of summer are back and the Reds should be very entertaining this year! --------- Lark, just signed in for the first time. I cant find the game threads. Help

So, evidently I first registered on this board back in 2011, but for some reason am just now returning. I really am not sure why it took so long.
I am another disenfranchised refugee from RedsZone. It seems that anyone who exhibits any form of optimism for the Reds is immediately attacked and battered with snarky comments. I need a break from the battleground.
I've been a Reds fans since 1970, when for the very first time, at 8 years-old, I heard Jim McIntyre and Joe Nuxhall on Reds radio on WLW. I remember that night - summer of 1970, I accompanied my dad over to my grandparent's home one evening. He told me to stay in the car while he ran in. I turned the radio on and discovered baseball. I was introduced to names like Bench, Rose, Perez, and Nolan. And I heard about something called the "World Series." The Reds lost the WS that year, but I was hooked.
I experienced the Big Red Machine, lived through the terrible teams of the early 80's, enjoyed the 1990 WS win, and survived the "Lost Decade." It's been a roller coaster, but I will be a Reds fan when they finally carry me out and plant me six feet under.

It should be an interesting offseason for our Reds.

New Member, long time visitor (2+years). Lark, I found the Redlegs Baseball (love what you do over there) site which led me to here. Good discussions here and very informative site and membership. Really intrigued by the moves the Reds have made this off season and different reactions. I am always optimistic this time of year when it comes to the Reds even when the data says not to be. One of these years my optimism will be rewarded and I am hoping its this year. Go REDS!

Hey Armo, thanks for the kind words (I need to rev-up the blog for the new season) and glad to have you on-board! I don't know if 2019 is going to be a successful season for the Reds, but it'll definitely be interesting...which I suppose is a step up from the last few seasons.
