Well, this portion of the site is a work in progress, as I'll be trying to improve the aesthetics of it, but it's perfectly functional as of now. I'd love to get this message board up and running with some quality back and forth discussion, but it may take a while to get enough active, interested posters to make it worthwhile.
A blog is fun, but it's the never ending discussion that truly makes baseball great.
Anyway, put your feet up and make yourselves comfortable. If you spirit moves you, then feel free to start chatting about the blog (I'm sure I said something brilliant or stupid (yes, I know, more likely the latter) or just baseball in general. As it stands, you DO NOT need to register to post on this message board, rather just hit reply and you're off to the races. That may change in the future if this board gets popular, but for now it isn't required. There are things members can do that guests cannot, so I'd recommend registering (which is very quick and requires a simple e-mail verification), but you can join in the discussion without doing it.
Unfortunately, unless I want to pay for this message board, you will see some Ads if you are using Internet Explorer, but if you use FireFox it should filter them out. So, as with the blog, I'm not making money off this site, so any ad revenue generated goes straight to the people who allow use to us this message board free of charge.
Anyway, the boys of summer are back and the Reds should be very entertaining this year!

well its about time Lark lol i dont know if you remember me at all but i couldnt stand the espn boards any longer. logical arguments are one thing but when you have to weed through posts about movies, quotes music and fake trades as well as the 2 word replies that bring nothing to the table it gets a little frustrating. Thanks for putting the time into creating this and i look forward to once again talking reds baseball this season

Great site and great idea getting this started Lark! You and Star are right, the ESPN boards are starting to get annoying. I know i dont post a ton but i do like to read the comments and articles you all provide. Thx and I hope this board does well!

Hey jhockey and sabo,
Of course I remember you guys and I'm glad to have you on board!! I actually stopped to try to think about how many people weren't posting much anymore and was surprised at how many came to mind. Unfortunately, I think most were feeling the same way as I was, that it was just time for a fresh start.
I know star and I talked last year about the ESPN board and both of us weren't really happy with it then. We talked about trying to start up our own board, but it never really went further. However, it just got to the point where I wasn't enjoying the ESPN board anymore, so I thought now was the time to try something new.
This may work or it may go down in flames, but I think it's worth a shot. Obviously, a site like ESPN has a big advantage in that they have a built in stream of visitors. An independent board like this doesn't have that kind of built in traffic, but I think to have an enjoyable, successful board we really only need a small core of quality posters. And, I think we're off to a pretty good start. In addition, I linked to this board from my blog, so maybe that will get us an additional new poster or two every once in a while.
I'm hoping that we can kick up enough discussion to revive the feeling of the old Reds board, where substantive discussion rule the day, differing view points were bouncing off the walls, and respect for each other was the order of the day. Maybe those days are just long gone, but if there is even a 1% chance that it can be brought back to life, then I think it's a chance worth taking.
Anyway, glad to have everyone on board!!!

True you dont have a built in stream of visitors, but if you have a good message board, word of mouth goes a long way.

Big ups for making this board, i'll try to stay a dedicated poster to help get this thing off the ground. A knee jerk reaction sin't always a horribl ething, but all the ESPN boards are anymore is nothing but kneejerk reactions. It'll be nice to have a good place to talk Reds baseball.

Hey guys, longtime ESPn poster who just couldn't stand the negatvity at that board. Look, I'm not all about optimism 24/7, but the amount of negatvity at that board was unbearable. Luckily, I think we can get this board going. Strangely enough, I'm apart of two other post ESPN boards hosted by proboards, and both are flourishing now that they have been up for about a year. Hopefully we can make this a lively place for such a great game.

hey guys. i'm a life long reds fan who always liked to read the espn board. I never posted but thought it was good place to read about the young players and see what other fans were thinking about the team. i always liked reading larks and stars post but i can barely look at that board anymore now. its always the same negativity and it was getting old. i'm glad you guys started this board and i will probably start to post on this on.
thanks

I wasn't sure how much interest there would be in this board, but it seems like there were even more alienated ESPN posters than I realized. Hopefully, now that we have a different environment, Star will go back to updating us on our farm system on a regular basis. Seems like TheDuke can certainly help in that regard as well. Great to have everyone here and let the discussion roll!!

I think you should create a board for non-Reds/baseball discussions.
One of the reasons I hate the ESPN boards is because of all the non-baseball post cluttering up the board.

I think you should create a board for non-Reds/baseball discussions. One of the reasons I hate the ESPN boards is because of all the non-baseball post cluttering up the board. Yeah, I'm sure there will be a tweak or two once things get up and running. To start out, I didn't want to have the discussion spread out over too many sub-forums, but if the volume of chat continues to increase, then that's certainly something that can be done.

This will be quick cause I'm studying for an awesome Management final that takes place at 8am but I'm looking forward to this new board. I didn't post a whole lot and checked the ESPN board maybe on a weekly basis. Too much negativity and people thinking their opinion and their opinion only could be right. Nothing worse than that.
I look forward to this board and hope it does well. I'm a member of a Cincinnati Bearcats message board and its awesome because of the great discussions and informed members. I hope this one shapes up to be like that too.
I will definitely tell a few of my friends about this site and let them know it should be fun. I look forward to an awesome year!

i got this idea from another board but since this thread is already stickied and a welcome thread maybe we could all use this as a thread to kind of introduce our selves since the board is new even though a lot of you already know each other. you know like name, age, location, favorite current red(s), favorite all time red(s), favorite non reds, movies, music, hobbies, how you got your screenname, other teams you follow, favorite reds moment, reds jerseys/ special memorabilia owned. like a stat sheet. if this is a stupid idea i'll just delete it haha but i thought it was worth bringing up just in case
