How about some rookie ball success stories for 2018?
Billings Mustangs
CF Mariel Bautista, 20, is hitting .317 with a .370 OBP in 162 PAs. 5 HR, 9 SB, 9 BB, 21 Ks. Not a lot of walks, but not striking out much either. Presumably headed for Dayton and full season ball in 2019, at age 21.
1b/RF Bren Spilane, 21, the recent 3rd round pick, continues having an interesting season. He was an extremely successful college hitter. He's hitting .254 with a .399 OBP in 114 PAs. 5 HR, 25 BB, 58 Ks. He's walking a lot but striking out way too much, but overall putting up decent numbers.
2b Cash Case, 19, last year's 4th round pick. He had a fairly disappointing debut for the AZLReds last year, hitting .180, albeit with a decent number of walks. This year he's hitting .279 with a .348 OBP on the season between Greeneville and Billings, with 11 BBs and 31 Ks in 135 PAs. At least he looks ready for Dayton in 2019.
CF Zeek (Isaiah) White, 21, that no-hit CF thrown into the Straily for Castillo/Brice trade, has had a great year. He was a 3rd round pick in 2015 by the Marlins, a raw skills lottery ticket who never really hit at all in his first three seasons. Between Greeneville and Billings he's hit .336 with a .429 OBP. 5 HR, 11 SB, 17 BB, 32 K in 141 PAs. Excited to see him at Dayton in 2019.
Greeneville Reds
CF Mike Siani, 19, the recent 4th round pick. I wrote a bit about him above. I was concerned that he sounded a little like Mickey Moniak, but so far so good. A solid pro debut. I hope he's the Reds' next Taylor Trammell, as a guy whose underrated bat slipped to the Reds. Looks ready for Dayton in 2019.
1b Rylan Thomas, 21, a recent 28th round pick, he's really taking advantage so far. He's hit 9 homeruns with 32 BBs and 29 Ks in 144 PAs. He's hitting .291 with a .451 OBP. Presumably an advanced college hitter with zero defensive value, hey, at least he's justifying his pick, maybe he can carry his success through a few levels of the minors.
OF Brian Rey, 20, a recent 13th round pick out of Miami-Dade College, in 146 PAs he's hit .281 with a .370 OBP, with 11 BBs and 9 Ks. Low BBs, low strikeouts. He's stolen 3 bases but hasn't hit a homerun. He's started 14 games in CF, 19 in RF, but I don't know much else about him. Still, so far so good.
RHP Josiah Gray, the recent 2nd round pick, has looked deserving of that draft spot so far. 9 GS, 39 IPs, 24 H, 12 BB, 43 Ks. A 2.77 ERA and 0.923 WHIP. I'm looking forward to seeing him in Dayton in 2019, too.
Arizona League Reds
Nobody. With the addition of Greeneville, the AZLReds have become a showcase for international teenagers making their domestic debut. They'd otherwise be in extended spring training or the Dominican Summer League.
C Victor Ruiz, 18, was the only guy having a decent season with perhaps minor rather than huge red flags. But then he was promoted to Greeneville, where he stopped hitting, a huge red flag in itself. But, he's 18.
