I played 1 year for the reds. The 7 years prior to being traded to the reds I led the entire major leagues in hits. I will never make the hall of fame but during my 7 year stretch as the majors hit leader, a first ballot hall of famer won 4 batting titles. I finished those 7 years with 75 more hits than the hall of famer. Who am I and who is the hall of famer?

I'm going with Clemente as the HOFer.
Can't find anything that works with Clemente, but I could see Gywnn and someone like Juan Samuel or Tony Fernandez working.

How about Curt Flood and teammate Lou Brock? No. Did Curt Flood play for the reds? Lou Brock is a good guess but Tony Gywnn is the correct answer for the Hall of Fame player.

How about Curt Flood and teammate Lou Brock? I just looked it up Curt Flood did indeed play for the reds. He was signed by the reds and played in 8 games for them, where I assumed he was traded to the Cardinals. Thanks for that bit of history.

Despite the fact that his teammate Larry Walker was the one that was often in the hunt for the batting title with Tony Gwynn, Dante Bichette had the most hits in the seven years before he played with the Reds.

Correct. I read an article about trades the reds had made, and Dante Bichette's name came up.I was shocked to learn that in the 7 years that prior to the reds trading for him he led all of baseball in hits. I didnt believe it so I looked it up from 1993-1999 Bichette had 1278 total hits and Gwynn had 1203.

Looking at the stats, what happened was that Gwynn kept just barely having enough plate appearances for the batting title due to being on the DL so often, and Bichette didn't have that problem.
