Keep all draft day talk in this thread if possible !
I am going to say the Reds do draft Alonso and I for one will like the pick. He is a safe pick he has better upside then Votto and we could aways move Votto to LF if we dont sign Dunn

Depends how things shake out. I wouldn't mind having him as long as better options are off the board.

I heard the same thing when Bruce was drafted 12th in 2005. Alot of Reds fans were not happy. The fact is the Reds like Alonso's bat better then other bats and his bat is very good. He is not liked as well as others because of his D but the bat is scary good.
I will be happy if its him because I like his bat the best. Other guys are better allaround players but not many have his bat.

I like Smoak because of his versitility and plus potential defensively. Switch hitter as opposed to another lefty. Hopefully Matusz falls, but I doubt it.

I like smoak better as well. Another lefty hitter isn't really what we need. Now, if he is the BPA I'm ok with it and won't be at all disappointed.

I would love to have a switch hitter but I think Alonso has the way better hitting ability overall. That being said we might be getting the SS from Georgia a kid I am also high on as its a position we need. Who knows I dont think we can go wrong with the people mentioned. I think its a solid draft class pick 1-20 then it gets weak after that.

I think that it doesn't really matter who the Reds draft, since what the team is now is not how it's going to be by the time the picks would be in Cincinnati, so ability is better than need.

For the most part, I agree. However, there are a few guys I disagree about because of what we have right now. I'm not sold on Crow or Friedrich because they'll progress quickly and we have a solid rotation. Also, college pitchers TYPICALLY don't have as much up-side (Price and Lincecum not withstanding) I'm not sold on Alonso because we have Joey Votto who should be a staple at first for the next 5 years at the very least.

It'll be interesting to see what the Royals do here. All week, I've read it's Hosmer. If it is, then the Royals have gotten serious about improving.

I think it will be Hosmer. Wouldn't be suprised to see Matusz go here though if they are serious about trading Greinke.
