Why would Hosmer be a good pick? It seems that Votto will be entrenched at first base for at least the next five years.

Well Hosmer would be a great pick because he can flat hit and besides he would be 3-4 years away. By then Votto is going to want big money and you can trade him for prospects and replace him with Hosmer.
Hosmer has flat sick hitting ability

It will be cool to see how Jockety does in the draft......I think for the most part the Cards were known for taking Highschool kids over college kids. At least I think that is what I remember.

There are a few You Tube videos of Hosmer out there, and his bat speed is just flat out ridiculous for a high schooler. It reminds me of Gary Sheffield, and he has GG caliber defense at first as well. Push come to shove, you can always teach one of them LF if you keep both long term, or like Star said, trade Votto for a big time prospect at a position of need when the time comes. Hosmer is one of the eight guys I have targeted that I would like the Reds to draft.
Players i'd be happy with (in no particular order): Eric Hosmer, 1B Aaron Hicks, CF Tim Beckham, SS Brian Matusz, SP, LHP Christian Friedrich, SP, LHP Aaron Crow, SP, RHP Tim Melville, SP, RHP Gerrit Cole, SP, RHP

I wouldn't mind Crow, but I definitely want a college player. We have been drafting too many high schoolers in the last ten years, and I think it has hurt our system, though the last two college players, Stubbs and Wagner, haven't exactly made names for themselves. The solution: college players from somewhere other than Texas.

College Player preference in order: Brian Matusz (pipe dream, I know), Aaron Crow, Christian Friedrich, Gordon Beckham, Justin Smoak
High School preference in order: Tim Beckham, Aaron Hicks, Eric Hosmer, Tim Melville, Gerrit Cole
Order of preference overall: Brian Matusz Tim Beckham Aaron Crow Eric Hosmer Aaron Hicks Christian Friedrich Godon Beckham Justin Smoak Tim Melville Gerrit Cole
I don't care if they go HS or college, I just want the most talented player available.

Your rankings don't make sense haha. You have Hicks and Hosmer switched in 1 of your 2 rankings. Oh well I'm just glad you are on top of the draft. Really enjoyable stuff.

That's because I keep changing my mind about which one I like better. Hicks could be a dynamic base stealing threat with major range and arm in the outfield, and Hosmer could be the best masher in the draft long term.

You know my feelings on it. Hicks is my choice. BUT I have been thinking about Hosmer a lot more too. He also doubles as a pitcher and throws it in the low 90's. If we did draft him and moved him to LF (because of Votto) he would have a great arm for LF. Maybe 3B is a option too? I wonder why he plays 1B in HS if he is so athletic. I have decided that I will only be happy with a HS bat or college arm with the exception being Beckam from Georgia. I don't know a lot about him but he could progress quickly giving us a solution at SS that we need if Janish doesn't work out.

I haven't decided who I want the Reds to nab in the 2008 draft, but I know who I want them to get in 2009.
Steve Strasburg. He pitches for San Diego State. He faced Utah and struck out 23 hitters in a game. His fastball touches 99 and his K/BB ratio is absolutely ridiculous.

Well, if we want Strasburg the Reds need to start tanking games left and right because he is going #1 overall.
