What prevents him from being drafted this year?

If you go into college you are there for 3 years as per college and MLB rules.

I haven't decided who I want the Reds to nab in the 2008 draft, but I know who I want them to get in 2009. Steve Strasburg. He pitches for San Diego State. He faced Utah and struck out 23 hitters in a game. His fastball touches 99 and his K/BB ratio is absolutely ridiculous. Not allowed Lark. Time to pick your horses and back them . Seriously though... who you drafting?

Well, if we want Strasburg the Reds need to start tanking games left and right because he is going #1 overall. Well, you never know. The baseball draft isn't as cut and dried as the other drafts, so he could slip. Mark Prior was the consensus no-brainer #1, but the Twins still went with Joe Mauer. Rick Porcello slid all the way to the Tigers because of signability. Who knows, maybe he'll sign on with Scott Boras.

What prevents him from being drafted this year? Yeah, TheDuke's got it, players are not draft eligible until after their junior year.

Seriously though... who you drafting? Honestly, I don't know enough about the players yet. I haven't had the time or the computer to enable me to roll up my sleeves and do a bit of research. I'll take a look this weekend and see who I like. As of know, all I can say is that I think Tim Beckham should go #1.

Hmm never knew that rule. Good to know haha. Yeah, there's another super soph out there worth knowing, Tarheel Dustin Ackley. He's a 1b/of and just a tremendous hitter. He'll be a top draft pick in 2009 as well.

Alvarez makes me doubt whether or not I would take Beckham #1. I mean I probably would, but Alvarez is as close to a lock to be a solid (if not great) pro as there is in this draft. Alvarez is the safest thing in the draft and that's usually what I look for.

BA revised their draft watch www.baseballamerica.com/today/draft/draft-tracker/2008/266183.htmlInteresting things of note in it: -Looks more and more like Tim Beckham will go #1 to the Rays -Aaron Hicks is being looked at more and more like a pitcher instead of a 5 tool outfielder -Gerrit Cole is hitting 101 on the gun -Friedrich is almost a top 10 prospect, and would not be a reach at #7 (Lefty starting pitcher with a plus plus curve) -Brett Lawrie intriques me as a power hitting 3B. He's canadian and hit 5 HR's in a DH against the Mariners extended spring training team, and could be a fast mover as he is probably the most polished HS bat in the draft.
