Not Tyler's best night. 3 ER in 5 innings.

Not Tyler's best night. 3 ER in 5 innings. Did you expect him to maintain a 0.55 ERA? A so so start, but he didn't get blown up and still had 7 K's. BABIP won't always be in your favor.

Pitching prospects doing well at all levels but not much to review on the offensive merits of the on-field regulars

Senzel, Lavalley, Trammell and Stephenson are all off to encouraging starts, imo.

After a slow start, Senzel is turning it on. Hitting over .300 now and hit another HR tonight. Started slow last year before he just shredded the midwest league.
Taylor Trammell starting to turn it on too.

And with how Suarez is playing both offensively and defensively at 3B, the Reds might want to think about getting Senzel some reps at 2B.

Mahle went 6 innings with 2 ER last night. Solid outing. Nice night for Tony Santillan as well. 10Ks, 0 BB, 2 H and 1 ER over 6 innings.
Cody Reed got bombed.

Just kidding, 2B makes sense.

A 5th straight strong start for Vlad Gutierriez. 5.1, 3 H, 1BB, 1 ER, 10 Ks. He now has a 42:5 K:BB ratio, and 4 of those walks came in his first two starts.
Strong start for Scott Moss as well. Moss has a chance to move quickly through the system, imo, if they envision him ultimately as a reliever. If he's a starter, it's going to take a while.

I'm starting to get pretty pumped up about Vlad Guttierez. RedsMinorLeagues.com has a video up on YouTube on him and he looks good. Using multiple arm angles while maintaining control, the changeup is improving rapidly, the slider is above average to plus already according to scouts, and he's sitting 92-95 and topping out at 97. I absolutely keep Moss as a starter, even if it takes a few years proper to build up his innings as limited use in college because of TJS. In his start last night he threw 75 pitches, 57 of those for strikes. He has 51 K in 36 IP so far this year. I got to see Moss live and the mechanics look clean and repeatable, he just needs reps after missing so much time at Florida. If I had to guess, I bet they have him go about 110 IP this year before they shut him down. That would allow him to get up to about 140-150 IP next year and that is just about most of a minor league season. Maybe shut him down for a couple weeks in the middle of the year if they want him to pitch in the minor league post season. By 2019, he'd then be ready for 170-180 IP, which anymore is the better part of a MLB season, and by 2020 he'd be ready for anything provided he stays healthy.

We sure as hell could have used his arm this year. Our midweek starters and all but two, maybe 3, guys in the bullpen have been atrocious. All of them. 6 guys combined to walk SEVENTEEN batters last night (still managing to give up 13 hits). It's a disaster.

I would move Suarez to 2B down the road if necessary and keep Senzel at 3B. Suarez was a SS/2B before, and I think he plays better as a 2B than a SS. However, he has looked right at home down there at 3B. Still, I think Suarez is the most likely candidate to move to 2B of the 2.
