That decision just saved me some money. I won't be in attendance until he's fired. This organization is a laughing stock.

Price has value with his pitching knowledge for a young staff. Why fire someone that can help with that development. Bringing in anyone isn't going to turn this team into a winner and the biggest job for the manager this year will be to further develop the young arms. No point in paying for two managers when the one that is in place is already a match for the major role this year. I don't see him getting the job in 2017 though.

Haven't had this many losses since 1982 (2nd worst W% since WWII era 1945 campaign), but everyone with any form of power gets to return...makes plenty of sense. At least in '82 they fired their manager. There might be 20 bobble-head nights next year.

Price is a dead man walking. He'll be fired after the ASB next year anyway (Hatcher as interim manager?) unless the 2016 squad drastically exceeds expectations. (and if he can guide next year's team to .500 or better, he deserves to stay, anyway, but this isn't gonna happen.) So why not let him work with the young pitchers (the one thing he's allegedly good at), let him go so he can have a soft landing as a pitching coach for some other club, and we come into 2017 with a new manager, hopefully locked and loaded and ready to contend?

A fine pitching coach. Price has not shown that he can get the best out of players as the manager of a team. This team just went through the motions all season.
Granted Jocketty does little to help the roster, but Price did have basically the same lineup that won the division in 2010.

Granted Jocketty does little to help the roster, but Price did have basically the same lineup that won the division in 2010. That got me wondering how they did this year, compared to others.
Runs Scored Runs Allowed 2010 710 685 2011 735 720 2012 669 558 2013 698 589 2014 595 612 2015 640 754 -The 2015 Reds scored MORE runs than the 2014 team, but the second fewest runs (in a full season) since 609 in 1994. -The 2015 Reds gave up their most runs since 800 in 2008. Although the 2003-2008 Reds allowed between 800 and 907 runs each year. Ouch. What really killed the Reds this year wasn't the offense (that only scored 29 fewer runs than the 2012 Reds), it was the ballooning run totals allowed by the pitching. It's also worth pointing out that Mesoraco's injury and Marlon Byrd's trade had adverse effects, compared to a healthy team trying to win. Mesoraco's recovery should improve the offense, and Winker will be up eventually. I want to say it again though, the team's biggest opportunity for improvement is through the pitching staff, not the offense. Slashing runs allowed by ~150 by 2015 is far more likely and achievable than increasing run production by an equal amount. The Cardinals were the winningest team in MLB this season with a similar number of runs scored.

I think we have to replace Jocko before we go about replacing Price.
Regrettably, I don't think Farmer Bob lets Jocko go unless we lose 100 games next year. And Jocko will make sure we're good for at least 70 wins...

And Jocko will make sure we're good for at least 70 wins... Jocketty's contract is up after 2016. Unlike this winter, he'll be gone next winter unless a contract extension is negotiated. And at this point Castellini must know it would be a very unpopular extension. If the team's goal is to contend by 2017 the performance of the first and second year players in 2016 will be far more important than the win-loss record, and I hope the owner knows that.

The odds of contending in 2017 are somewhere between slim and none.
And I saw Slim at the bus station...
