Good riddance. Guy has been one of the biggest douchebags in baseball over the last decade. Liked but not well-liked... Arthur Miller, Death of a Salesman (1.3) So, you wanna be an MLB pitcher? For posterity sake, here's the right arm trauma that Carpenter endured: 9/16/1999 - Right Elbow surgery for bone spurs 9/2/2002 - Right Shoulder surgery for SLAP Labrum Tear 7/29/2003 - Right Shoulder surgery for scar tissue 5/8/2007 - Right Elbow surgery for bone spurs 7/24/2007 - Right Elbow surgery Tommy John 11/4/2008 - Right Elbow surgery for Ulnar Nerve Transposition 7/19/2012 - Right Shoulder surgery for Thoracic Outlet Syndrome By the end of his career, his shoulder had to be held together with sawdust and baling wire. It wouldn't surprise me if there was a rusted out Buick parked in there somewhere.

I think I saw on twitter that Vargas got 4 yr/32 mil from the Royals.
Is this a sign the Reds should have given Arroyo a qualifying offer?

"According to the Star Tribune's La Velle E. Neal, the Twins and Phil Hughes have come to terms on a three-year, $24 million contract. Hughes will join Ricky Nolasco, Kevin Correia and Samuel Deduno in a rebuilt Twins rotation. It still projects as a well below average group, but it is a definite improvement with some actual upside for once. Hughes was 4-14 with a 5.19 ERA for the Yankees last season, but getting out of Yankee Stadium and into a bigger ballpark should help a great deal."

"Jim Bowden of ESPN and SiriusXM reports that Scott Kazmir's two-year deal with the A's is for $22 million. That's a big sum of money for a cash-strapped team like Oakland, but it's actually pretty good value in this current free agent market. Kazmir, 29, registered a 4.04 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 162/47 K/BB ratio in 158 innings this past season for the Indians. He should do well in the cavernous confines of the Athletics' O.co Coliseum."

Really, Houston?
"FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Astros have agreed to terms with Scott Feldman on a three-year, $30 million contract. Feldman still needs to pass a physical in order to make the deal official. The big right-hander signed for $6 million last winter but is able to cash in after putting up a 3.86 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 132/56 K/BB ratio in 181 2/3 innings. If the Astros don't make any other moves with their rotation, Feldman figures to be their Opening Day starter."

He took the money. Houston has to overpay to get anyone now.

I for one wouldn't overpay for a player like Choo if I were them because I think they need a lot more pieces. They may be in "SEA" area in a few years (attendance halved, etc.) and have to do that though.

David Cooper is on the verge of signing a major league contract with the Indians. His career nearly ended a year ago when he herniated a thoracic disk sliding into first base. Cooper is now walking around with a titanium plate and two titanium screws that are 8 millimeters in diameter fusing the T-7 and T-8 vertebrae in his back. The plate and screws are connected with locking nuts. Below is the x-ray of his repaired spine.
