Does anyone know if he is going to catch on with the Rangers?
I know some really wanted him to come back here. Lark I belive you was one but could be mistaken. If any of those who did want him back do you still fill that way? Basicly we got Affeldt instead of Eddie for his money. ( I think it was 3.5mil option )
Just curious if anyone had heard anything about how he was doing with the Rangers.

I definitely did want him back and I still think he could be a solid option in 2008. If he's healthy for the first time in several years, then I think he could have been a steal.
As it stands, his been battling a strained tendon in his left knee, so he has only been able to throw 5-6 innings this spring. However, he says he'll be ready for opening day.
I'm going to be watching closely to see how he does this year. I wouldn't have been wild about picking up his option, but I think we could have brought him back on a low base salary with incentives. That might have made him a better value and option than dropping huge coin on Cordero.

Jermey Affedlt or Eddie G or Mike Stanton ( just kiddin )

If we are talking about just strictly performance, I'd actually probably take a chance on Everyday Eddie. If we are taking into account other factors, I'd go with Affeldt. If Affeldt has a good season this year, he'll probably bring back draft pick compensation for the Reds. That would tip the scales in his favor. In the big picture, if it were up to me, I wouldn't have handed out that contract to Cordero. I probably would've targeted Brian Wilson of the Giants and re-signed Eddie. Guardado and Weathers could help stabilize the bullpen until the young guns of Brian Wilson, Jared Burton, Josh Roenicke, and Pedro Viola were ready to carry the full load.

I dont have a problem with Cordero's deal. I have a bigger problem with paying 2 lefty specialist a total of around 6mil.

I dont have a problem with Cordero's deal. I have a bigger problem with paying 2 lefty specialist a total of around 6mil. Meaning Stanton and Affeldt? Stanton's contract is certainly a bad one, while the jury is out on Affeldt. Maybe bad contracts are just par for the course in baseball. I suppose the best GMs avoid them, but it seems like almost every team has at least one. Off the top of my head, the Padres may not have one. I suppose you could avoid having one if you rely on homegrown talent (Rays) or just never pay anyone at all (The Fish), but if you are an active organization you may well get stuck with one. Maybe we just have to accept the fact that once in a while with baseball contracts you'll roll a snake eyes. Maybe we should all expect a certain percentage of team payroll to be inefficiently used or just flat out wasted. Maybe there should be an expectation of a certain degree of sunk costs to the payroll. Or, maybe Krivsky was just an idiot on the day he signed Stanton.
