Ahhhh sweet music to my ears. CTR said the Phillies are interested in Stanton because they need a pitcher. NO idea why they would want him but supposedly they are willing to trade Wes Helms for Stanton. Not sure if that would benefit our team getting Helms but getting rid of Stanton would be awesome.

two birds...one stone? Stanton for Helms and cut Castro. I agree, then turn that trade around and ship off Hatte to somebody who needs some help at 1B. Hatte can get us a pretty good return.

At this point I honestly dont think so. Maybe we havent shoped him this off season or last deadline or this spring but I have seen no rumors of anyone intrested or anything. I would rather just do a 3 team deal. Reds Get- P Kevin Correia Phils Get- RP Mike Stanton INF Juan Castro or Chris Dickerson Giants Get- 3B Wes Helms RP Todd Coffey Stanton, Coffey and Castro or Dickerson is worth Correia I belive.

I saw the transcript of this interview the other day and was surprised. It's almost as though Baker was making it clear to the media that he wasn't going to be happy with some of the 25 man roster he would start with........like Krivsky had already told him Stanton, Castro, and Freel would be on it. You can tell Baker is used to using the media to his advantage. Krivsky won't last long if Baker is going to submarine him thru the media.

Dusty isnt stupid he is expected to win here. He knows he can depend on Mike Stanton to get guys out. He knows Juan Castro doesnt provide any help right now. He knows Ryan Freel is a health risk who I hate to say it but is overated just because of his hustle. ( I love his hustle but we just dont need him )

Freel is more valubale then people give him credit for. Having him on our bench means we have a backup for 6 positions and 7 when you consider he is an emergency catcher. I'm just sayin... he is overpaid but there is no reason not to have him on our roster because what he provides is greater then what he would get us in a trade. Stanton needs to be GIVEN away to make room for people with actual talent. Castro I like. From what I hear he is a great clubhouse guy and he is awesome defensively. Not an awful guy to have on your bench. However, he can't pinch hit so we can only afford to have him if we only carry 2 catchers.

I have no problem with Freel as a 5th OFer and backup everywhere as long as he is not stealing starts from Keppinger or Hopper.

People have really gotten down on him, but his value is his versatility. He can really expand a bench and provide much more flexibility, which is of value in the NL. In addition, he's got good speed and can get on base, so I like having him coming off the bench. Unfortunately, I'll have to disagree with you about Juan Castro. He can't hit and I think his defense is highly overrated. He's a blackhole on the roster and needs to be jettisoned just like Stanton. Castro is a prime example of why you don't give multi-year deals to strictly bench players.

My problem with Freel is that I like Kepp and Hopper more. They are really good and are versatile as well. I'm a big fan of Kepp and hope he gets regular at bats all season.
