Maybe the Reds were right about Volquez.
Volquez is once again putting together a nice outing, as he's facing the Phillies starting lineup and has 4.1 scoreless innings, allowing 3 hits, 1 walk, and tallying 6 strikeouts.
He's been very impressive thus far and the Reds rotation is starting to look a bit crowded.

Final line: 5IP, 3H, 0R, 1BB, 6K
Love this quote from him post-game: ""I'm throwing my strikes, That's what I'm going for. I control my emotions, too. I'm getting old, man." It sounds like he's trusting his stuff, and realizes that it's time to establish himself.
For the Spring: 13 IP, 3.46 ERA, 3BB (!), 19K(!!)
You have to believe he's positioned himself right behind Cueto for one of the available rotation slots.

Yeah, damn fine outing today, no doubt about it.
However, I'm just getting more and more confused about who is going to be in our rotation to start the year. I have a hard time believing that the Reds are going to feel comfortable having more than one of Homer/Cueto/Volquez in the rotation.
At this point, I think Cueto is a lock, but is Volquez going to make the cut as well?
I'm not a fan of Matt Belisle, but my gut tells me that he's going to be in the rotation. I'm still feeling like it's going to be:
1) Harang 2) Arroyo 3) Fogg 4) Belisle 5) Cueto
Though, I'd much rather see Volquez or Homer in the rotation for Belisle.

Harang Arroyo Cueto Fogg Volquez
I'd be suprised if that isn't the rotation to start the year at this point. Belisle is jst being outperformed by Cueto, Fogg, and Volquez so he is likely to be booted back to the pen as the long relief, spot start guy.
Come next year you insert Homer Bailey (hopefully) and maybe even try to trade Arroyo as he starts to get expensive, resign Fogg is he performs well, and put in Homer as well.

This is how I see the pitching staff right now
1. Harang 2. Arroyo 3. Cueto 4. Fogg 5. Volquez
Belisle Alfeldt Coffey Stanton Weathers Burton Cordero
Look for Bailey to start the year in AAA, Stanton tobe let gosoon maybe by midseason and replaced by Bray.

I hope your right star! Cueto and Volquez look to be the real deal. They both have great command, and it looks like good mound presence. I think Bailey needs AAA, he will be good but its just not right now, and going down there should make things start to click for him.
Belisle I am not sold on at all. I just dont like his stuff, Maybe the bullpen is what he needs, but i do know its not the rotation that suits him. Fogg is adequate enough for a 4th or 5th starter, especially for 1 million.
