I have to say I was very wary of the Corey Patterson signing when it happened, but if he continues to tone down the power and try to make contact like he has most of this spring he could be a very good leadoff hitter for the Reds this year. He has speed to burn, is the best defensive option in CF that we have (not that Hopper is a slouch), and if he can keep his OBP at .350 or aove I will be more than happy with him leading off. I would also like to see a few games with Hopper leading off in a corner spot with Patterson in CF and batting 2nd. That would be a lot of speed and bunting ability at the top of the order.

I think Patterson will do fine. A platoon with Norris should work out.

From the beginning my only problem with Patterson was that he would be holding Bruce back. That said, Patterson has deserved to make this team. Until he collapses, I'm behind him.

Absolutely no way Patterson posts a .350+ OBP.

You never know. He's older, seems to be a little more patient, and so far it looks like he knows his role. He hasn't been trying to jack homers every at bat which was one of his biggest flaws in Chi-town.

His problem last year though was that he wasn't trying to hit anything with some athority.
If the Reds can get a month or two out of Patterson/Hopper that should be enough. Bruce needs just a little more time in AAA, and I rather see him in RF anyway. Playing CF with Griffey and Dunn out there will probably be asking alot out of the kid.

I've been very pleased with Patterson........but it's only spring. If he carries this over to even just one month (April), I'll be very happy.
If he carries it over for two, he's the steal of the off-season ($500K for above average CF defense and the most steals potential in Cinci since Eric Davis).
