wow, i really didnt see this coming this soon. i'm not a big Kriv ban as a GM, but he does know how to evaluate talent. I dont know much about Jockety except he was the GM for the cards. What do you all think of this?

What do you all think of this? Well, he has gotten the Cards a championship, and that's why you play the game, but it's hard to say. Kriv did a good job

i really liked some of the moves Kriv made (phillips, kepp, burton) but he still failed to address several areas of concern for the current team (lead-off hitter, RH bats). Hopefully, Jock will be able to move this team forward without purging the farm.

Well, personally I see this move only as a sad and desparate move by an owner that doesn't comprehend just how badly the franchise has been run prior to his ownership.
Schott and Linder (with his boy Bowden) basically ran the franchise into the ground after 1990 for 2 decades. I like Castellini's "win now" message he's been preaching but to think it's that easy is drastically over-simplifying things. To think 2 years is enough to turn around the sins of the past is laughable.
Let's be honest, the only reason Jocketty won in Oakland and St. Louis is because he had Tony LaRussa and Dave Duncan as his manager and pitching coach. Those 2 get more out of average talent than anyone else in the league. We won't have either so I see this move as a giant step backwards.

I see this as a step back too. The reds have had 3 gms in 5 yrs. That will not work to rebuild a team. By the way did you see Castellini's quote on reds.com "Frankly, I blame it on my own impatience." Jocketty is signed though 2011.

More on what may have got him fired.
John Fay: But I think one of things things that really hurt Krivsky was Johnny Almaraz leaving. Bob Castellini saw Almaraz as a potential GM. He quit because he had trouble working with Krivsky. Almaraz, the guy who signed Johnny Cueto, ended up with the Braves. That says a lot about his reputation.

From the Press Confrence:
John Fay (see again):
Bob Castellini:
"I don't think anyone in the organization is happy with the results in a won-loss basis. We've had two losing seasons under the new ownershp. We started this season poorly ... and that's the primary reason we made the change."
"This has been a very tough decision. And Wayne Krivsky did a whale of a job in so many areas. We've just come to a point where ... we're just not going to lose any more."
Walt Jocketty:
"Bob came to me last night and asked if I was ready to do this for him. We talked about it for a while and it's been 6 months ... it was a tough decision. I talked to my wife, my kids. I knew this was tough for Bob. I know it's tough replacing Wayne. ... I'm charged up and ready to go and I think this organization is going in the right direction. I talked to Bob quite a bit a few years ago when he was contemplating buying this franchise and we talked at the time about what a great franchise this was, the history of the franchise, and how it was very similar to the situation I had in St. Louis, with a winning tradition, great fans and great community. But they hadn't won in St. Louis in a long time either. So there are a lot of similarities."
"Trust me, me and Dusty are very motivated. We're both guys with a vendetta and chip on our shoulders."
"I think one thing I talked with Dusty about today ... we need to change the culture and mindset to have everyone believe we can win. ... You have to surround yourself with positive people. We'll evaluate that in the coming weeks and months."
