wow. wasn't expecting this move when I woke up this morning This organization really needs some consistency in their manager and GM. The firings so often prove the instability and incompetence of our head office and it really sets our organization back. It takes a solid plan in place to finally have a winning season but its hard to have a solid plan when there is no solidity in management. And thats why the players do not give full effort and who blames them. Their is no loyalty whom what so ever nor fair chances given out. Hire the right guy the first time and give him a fair 5 year chance for GM manager should get at least 3. just my .02 but needless to say I'm a little upset, we'll see how the team responds though

I think Krivsky just fell victim to the Good Ole Boy system....
It's a damn shame. All this optimism that surrounds this team, yet we fire the guy who created most of it....

Hiring Jockety was a pretty clear indicator this was going to happen, but i'm still a little suprised by the timing of it. Overall, I think Wayne did a pretty good job, except for his contract extensions, which may have been his undoing. As long as we keep our current scouting director i'm OK with the move, and the state of the franchise going forward. I just hope Jockety shows a committment to the draft and latin america that are the best ways to keep a team like the Reds competitive over a long period of time.

Can't the Reds keep someone around more then 2 to 3 years and give the guy some time to work. Yes it has been just over 2 years but it takes longer than that to build a team.
honestly 2006 I think hurt him. To come so close to making the playoffs and then fall back to where they were hurt him. Have I agread with all his moves? No, but he has done a good job based on what he had to work with.
He had basicly no farm system to work with. It takes time. I know people want things done now but it does not work that way. It DOES take TIME.

Unless Jocketty can hit the ball for them, I don't see much changing without some drastic player moves.

Other then a few moves I don't think Wayne did all that much.
he made really three great moves
Phillips for junk
Hamilton in rule 5
and even trading Hamilton for Volquez. You can say you rather have kept Hamilton and traded Votto, EE, or some other player instead but you don't know if there was a similar market.
The farm system revival that was done by O'Brien, Wayne was just getting to enjoy the work that O'Brien did.
Probably Waynes biggest accomplishment was not trading away the prospects.
I'm very leary of what Jocketty will do in that regard. His history is one of selling the farm and not really developing much.

Here is more on the Fireing.
From John Fay: I've also heard that he and Walt Jocketty were not getting along great.
C Trent: I'm surprised. This shows a supreme lack of patience by Bob Castellini. Three general managers in five years is too many to build a stable franchise. But Bob Castellini promised a winner, and I'm not sure if he completely understands that baseball is tough to win now and that Krivsky wasn't going to mortgage the future for the present.
I think it was too early.
There was an 11 a.m. meeting to get everything figured out. Jocketty's first move will be to decide what to do with David Ross, whose rehab assignment ended yesterday.
Lance : Things I'm told Baseball people in and around the organization tell me the following today in reaction to Wayne's firing: "The firing does not shock me...the timing does" "My worry would be for the draft...six weeks away" "Wayne was never as smart as he thought he was...and it turned more than a few off" "Are Wayne's "guys" loyal to him? Do they stick around? Do they give less than their best effort for the draft...knowing they are probably gone at the end of the year?" "I worry because it means yet another set of eyes will be brought in...and yet another approach and way of doing things will be put in place" "What about all the scouts and minor league coaches Wayne hired?" "Timing is strange...you can't do much to change this team now....they are what they are....a team not very well put together......I'd worry about it throwing the draft out of kilter. The draft for this team will be huge."
I also read he was fired do to the Reds slow start. When he controls when players get hot with the bat let me know so I can place some orders with him.

to be honest with you I can think of 3 plays on the top of my head that the Cards may have drafted in, Pujols Wainwright Ankiel
maybe Molina but I am less certain on him than the others.
