Unbelievably, the Nationals released John Patterson. I cannot type this large enough: [glow=red,2,300]GO OUT AND SIGN HIM!!!!!!!!![/glow]
They are worried about his velocity, but he's still building up his arm strength, so I think he's definitely worth the gamble. He's been talking about how good his arm feels after offseason surgery.
He's a great option in my book and the Reds need to make a quick push to get him signed. We don't need to find the next John Patterson when we can just get the original.

Who is John Patterson? The name doesn't ring a bell for me.

Heck ya if you can sign him to a low ball deal they have to do it. Patterson in 2005 was the Ace of washingtons staff, he started 31 games, was 9-7 and had a 3.13 era, then he developed some nerve problem iirc in his throwing arm. He even went to see some doctor in Toronto for a treatment that apparently wasn't approved in the United States.

A pitcher with ace quality stuff that has had only one healthy season in I believe the last five or six.
He might be worth taking a flyer on but I wouldn't break the bank for him.

Oh, we wouldn't have to break the bank to get him. Patterson has been talking about how good his arm feels, but he hasn't gotten the velocity back. However, given that he hasn't pitched much in the last two years, I really think it's just a matter of building up arm strength. If that's the case, then it could be a complete steal. If he's healthy, then we should sign him up.
