This is fuking retarded. I'm quick to defend GW Bush more often than not....but it's time that he got off his ass and did something about gas prices.

The democrats won't do anything about it either, so don't let your vote be based on gas.
I'd love to see some people and lawyers with some balls file a class action collusion lawsuit against all the major oil companies for defrauding the public.
$3 quadrillion ($3,000,000,000,000,000.00) sounds about right to me.
I can't wait for someone to create a cheap mass alternative to the gas powered internal combustion engine and watch how completely f***ed these companies will be.

Oh trust me, my vote won't be swayed on that...I just wish one of those corrupt punk arse bi*ches would do something about it. Sadly, even if we all switched over to alternative sources tomorrow, the oil companies would still be making money. They'd have to fire all their employees, but the heads would still make some mad cash on all their investments....

They'd buy the rights to said cheap source then say that it was expensive to implement.
Plus its not like water is all that cheap. Look at what companies charge for a bottle of "filtered" tap water.
If we started using out own resources instead of trying to keep alot of other countries from bottoming out by buying oil from them I'm sure that the prices would drop if the companies were willing.
But I think the problem is simple. Gas companies know that its something that is necessary for life and that they can pretty much charge whatever they want for it.
I'm just glad that I only drive around 400-500 miles a month.

And what exactly do you expect President Bush to do about it?
Maybe it has escaped your attention that the wholesale price of crude hit yet another record yesterday.
The only sensible suggestion I've heard yet was McCain's idea to suspend the gas tax for a few months. But that's only going to shave about seventeen cents off the price, and the price of crude continues to go up.

Was out with the wife and kids on Sunday and it took nearly $60 to fill our Ford Explorer. Takes just under $40 to fill our Grand Prix which gets me about 25 mpg on the highway. In 2000, I remember filling my Ford Taurus for about $16. Rising oil prices, collusion, and just general greed. Sickening.

I realize that the price of crude is at an all-time high, but the overall trends of the gas companies is disturbing. You haven't noticed that the price almost always jumps right before the weekend? Or that it will spike, raising 20 cents overnight, and take a week and a half to go back down those 20 cents? There is plenty to be done...

This is why we need to nationalize the oil companies, arresting the executives and freezing their assets on suspicion of complicity in terrorist financing schemes. There's not much left of habeus corpus, so we could keep the big fish in the hole indefinitely, using their collective assets for rebates to the little people...
Just a second...
I think I hear a helicopter outside...

Demand increase on a weekend when people are driving more, while supply is constant. It also increase in the summer when the weather improves and people start driving. (Yet when it comes back down in the weather for exactly the same reasons, people either a) ignore it or b) yell about how Bush's oil buddies are manipulating the price prior to an election. Why is it that despite countless Congressional investigations (plus all those state legislatures who have to stick their nose into it) the oil companies always, always come out clean on charges of price fixing? BTW, last I checked the price of cola at around $5/gallon (a much less competitive market with only two big producers) is still more than the price of gasoline. Hmmm, must be Big Cola manipulating the market...

On the lighter side, my wife and I are celebrating the tenth anniversary of our first date.
She asked me to take her someplace expensive, so we went and filled up the minivan. ;D

At this point, it's time for the U.S. to get very serious about alternative energy sources. I'd imagine that would also go a long way towards solving the problems in the middle east.

That's part of the free market, as the price of gasoline goes up, alternative sources become cheaper by comparison, and the market will migrate in that direction.
I think people get frustrated because it is a slow process.
