Well when Patterson was signed I figured this would happen. I am ok with it. I hold out hope Patterson plays well in CF gets a 2 year deal and after this season Bruce is moved to RF to replace Griffey. Patterson could then hold down the fort untill Stubbs is ready.

Save that service clock time, push his arbitration back a year. He is a corner outfielder, not a centerfielder in my opinion so that makes this a bit easier to swallow for me.

Biggest thing is we dont waste any service time with him. You all are right, he is a corner OF and not a CF. Right now with hopper, Patterson, and freel we have to many people trying to man CF, so hopefully we can trade one of the 3 by the all star break and get something decent. Then next year, Griffey will be gone or Dunn and Bruce can man his Corner OF spot.

It's fine if the reason is that want to push back his service time clock, but I hope it isn't because they don't feel he is ready. Bruce is ready. He may gain additional benefits from a bit more time at AAA, but he's got what he needs to be successful at the MLB level right now.

Oh no doubt about Lark he is ready and has the tools, i just hope that is the main reason he was sent down, since we do have a major jam in the outfield right now with Dunn, Griffey, Hopper, Paterson, Freel. If we dont have an injury by the break and we are not in the playoff hunt then i do think one of Griffey, and Dunn will be traded.

Yup I agree with you guys. Why let him start his clock while starting maybe a game a week. Leave him at AAA and bring him up when the time is right. As long as Patterson does alright and Hopper does well I'm cool with it.
I think we have a great chance to do somethin this season and want the best possible players to be playing. I don't think Bruce would be the best option on day 1 with the other options we have.

Bruce still has things to work on, plate discipline being priority one. Bruce strikes out a lot, and that is OK fo rthe type of power he has, but in moving from High A to AAA last year he never really got to work on it much as he was more jsut adjusting to each level he was moved at. Plate discipline, hitting opposit field, more time in right field defensively shoudl be the things he focus on improving while still refining his overall game.

I don't see how this helps the team in the long run but hey I'm just an idiot on a message board. The A's, Marlins and a few other teams let their young kids play, I dont know why the reds dont. WE are in very similiar situations and it's worked for both of them, but I guess our mgt. likes to play it safe, too safe in my opinion

Well, if Cueto is on the team to start the year, then Cueto and Votto will both be eligible for free agency after the 2013 season. If you keep Bruce on the roster to start the year, then he too would be free agent eligible after the 2013 season. Depending on how they handle Homer, he too could be free agent eligible after 2013.
The Reds have four stud prospects, but I don't see how they can retain them all if they are all eligible for free agency after the 2013 season. We'd lose some of them.
There are benefits to staggering their service time clocks.

There are benefits to staggering their service time clocks. Damn good point i never thought of that. Ouch that would not be fun trying to figure out how to pay all 4 of them at the same time.

Should Brandon Waring develope well, I could see the Reds trading Votto in 2-3 years and let the power hitting Waring play 1st. He has decent D at 3rd and could be a plus defender at 1st, has a good 6'4" frame for 1st too. 20 HR in your first 65 games is impressive, even if it is in rookie ball. He was also just 195 lbs last year on his 6'4" frame, just imagine once he fills out to 220-225 or so.

Hopefully, he'll prove me wrong.

At this point, I think it's clear what needs to happen. Votto and Cueto need to be on the MLB roster all season long, which would make them free agents after 2013. Bruce needs to spend a couple of months at AAA and come up midseason, which would make him a free agent after 2014. Finally, Homer needs to spend ALL of 2008 in the minors, which would make him a free agent after the 2014 season. Homer isn't ready and needs to go to the minors until he improves his control and command. That would give the Reds two free agents after 2013 and two after 2014. Splitting it up would make it more likely that they'll be able to keep 3 or all 4 of them.

And we can always sign these guys before they become free agents. Signing them to an extension with a year left of arbitration would allow us to sign them for a cheaper price tag. I would be ok with that also.

I'd be fine with Corey Patterson if I trused Dusty to use him properly.
I have no problem with Corey Patterson in center.
I have a HUGE problem with Corey Patterson in center and leading off.
And you know it's going to happen. Every. Damn. Day.
I hate Dusty.
