Bailey seems to be trusting his stuff alot more. He is just throwing it in there letting the hitter get themselves out.
2 innings 0 hits 0 bb 0 K's 0 runs 20 pitches 12 for strikes

Jordan Smith has pitched well
5 innings 7 hits 1 bb 5 K's 1 run
All 7 hits are singles. He is not getting hit hard at all. This kid needs AA.
Move Thompson to AAA and Smith to AA ASAP

Bailey cruising along tonight.....Not getting the K's you hope for but fastball is 93-96 mph. Justin Verlander had issues with K rate for awhile and finally figured it out. I like the way bailey is attacking the hitters making them hit his pitches.
3 innings 0 hits 0 bb 0 k's 0 runs 29 pitches 18 for strikes
Only 29 pitches in 3 innings is more then solid !
he has gotten 5 guys in 0-2 or 1-2 holes but he is not even going for the K picking on the corners like he once did he is throwing strikes.

Still very good

Bailey gives up his first hit in the 4th inning , a rehabing granderson doubles to RF. bailey gets the next hitter to hit a 1-2 94 mph fastball to catcher david ross. The next hitter again hits a 1-2 pitch and makes a out. Bailey is just not going for the strikeout he is leaving the 2 strike pitches in the zone it seems he really wants to keep pitch count down. Perez pops out into a double play !
4 innings 1 hit 0 bb 0 K's 0 runs
I think has had hitters in 2 strike holes 5-7 times without getting a strikeout. I think he is working on controling his pitches in the zone right now and not going for the strikeout. Once his control is on all the time he will be able to go out of the zone to get hitters to chase. Smart of him to not worry about the K's now though. he is working on all his ptiches.

Now bailey is getting the strikouts as we enter the 5th
He gives up a single to begin the 5th then gets back to back strikeouts ! He gets the next hitter to fly out to end the inning
So far so good For Homer !
5 innings 2 hits 0 bb 2 K's 0 runs 57 pitches 38 for strikes

Look at bailey's K/BB ratio right now
4 starts into his season
17 k's only 3 bb
That is a marked improvment even to his AAA numbers last year !

bailey gives up a 2 out single to granderson who now has 2 of the 3 hits off bailey. He gives up another single to 2 hole hitter. Bailey's elevating his pitches a little this inning. Coach comes to the mound to talk to him. He gets perez to fly out to end the inning
6 innings 4 hits 0 bb 2 K's 0 runs 78 pitches 50 for strikes
I wonder if they give him one more inning ?

Bailey seems to be trusting his stuff alot more. He is just throwing it in there letting the hitter get themselves out. Wasn't that his problem? I thought he just let minor leaguers get themselves out but major leaguers wouldn't do that? Is he hitting the corners and controlling where he pitches the ball? Does his stuff have more movement than it did? Is he getting the off speed stuff over the plate?

Jordan Smith with 10 ground outs to 3 flyouts to go with his 5 K's. A nice little ratio right there.

bailey's issue was always trying to pick at the corners not allowing the hitters to get themselves out. That is one reason he always had high pitch counts. So this is a big diffrence IMO.
His stuff looks alot better. His fastball has way more movment and he is spotting it way better. It looks like his stride to home is way down. I cant tell if the slider is being used yet or not though but the curveball is flatter and thats a good thing........maybe some of those pitches I thought were curveballs were sliders.
Bailey looks way diffrent now and he is still only 21 folks !
