Brandon Morrow told the Seattle Times on Sunday that he plans to be a full-time closer, both this season and in future years. And Seattle's chances of fielding a contender in 2010 just took a hit. If this is what Morrow wants, the Mariners likely will go with it. It does make sense for the short-term, as he's had some forearm problems and he may not be ready to hold up as a starter anyway. For the long-term, he has a great deal of upside as a starter and he may develop better that way. He's still awfully wild right now, and pitching one inning every three days isn't the best way to attack that problem. Still, it seems safe to assume that he will take over as the closer, if not on Opening Day then most likely by the end of April. Ryan Rowland-Smith will be the fifth starter, with Garrett Olson next on the depth chart. Miguel Batista, Tyler Walker and the rest of Seattle's relievers all look like weak fantasy options now. But, it'll probably help me in the short run, but hurt in the long run. Still, if you read the article, then I suppose it does make sense. For one, it'll help him manage his diabetes. Still, tough to get behind the idea of shifting a potential #1 starter who almost threw a no-hitter in his first MLB start to the bullpen. But, who knows, maybe he'll switch back in the future.

I drafted him in a few of my teams considering that possibility (to be a SP or a CL). I agree it´s tough move, but I think it´s the best one for him for health issues, as you said, and control. Doesn´t sound like he´s going to change in the future.
