If the Reds keep their traditional 3 lefties then I just don't see a place for Coffey. Burton, Weathers, and Cordero are just about guaranteed spots, and one of Belisle/Fogg/Volquez will be the long relief/spot start guy, and that would be 7 bullpen spots.
Should the Reds consider carrying only 2 lefties (Affeldt and Bray/Coutlangus(if Bray is on DL) and go with 4 righties in the pen to go with the 5 righty starters?

Its pretty nice to have all these players and not enough spots. Usually we're holding tryouts just to find someone to take a spot. I know these aren't the best players in the game but its certainly better than what we've been accustomed to here lately.

That is the case for righthanders, but if we are seriously considering Lincon, Mercker, or Stanton then we are pretty thin on left handed pitchers. Hopefully Bray and Coutlangus can both take a step forward this year. Bray has looked good since coming back from his spring shoulder problem. Bray Affeldt Coutlangus/Stanton/Mercker/Lincon That will be our lefties, which does worry me a little bit.

Oh I'm definitely assuming that Bray is going to show his true potential this year. As long as he can stay healthy that is.
And I've read nothing but good things about Stanton this spring. He's in much better shape and apparently his father passing away really hurt his performance. I didn't know about that before but that is certainly understandable.

I lost all respect for Coffey last year. He was in a position to earn the closer's role and he came in fat and unimproved. His fastball is straight and after 2 years in the majors has yet to develop a solid second pitch. His performance in 2007 was a big reason for all the bullpen gyrations.
I'd rather see us keep Roenicke up but doubt we will given Coffey's contract. I still don't understand what merited a guaranteed contract given his lack of experience.
