Who has been the biggest Reds disappontment of spring training?
A. Homer Bailey - The obvious choice as he seemed to not really improve his control or command over the offseason, and still seems to rub some of the other players the wrong way.
B. Matt Belisle - Very up and down 2007 in his first year starting, looks to have taken a step back and has been getting rocked all spring.
C. Jon Coutlangus - Similar situation to Belisle, if Cout could have taken a step forward it would have made the left side of our bullpen pretty solid. Was hoping he could transition from a lefty specialist to a whole inning reliever, but I haven't seen that yet.
D. Edwin Encarnacion - Another slow start in the spring, and his defense is still looking shaky.
E. Jay Bruce - People wanted a Pujols like emegence, and while Bruce has looked solid, the Reds certainly have a good case to send him to AAA to start the year.
For me its Belisle. I thought he could have taken a step forward because he has decent stuff, and a good fastball, but for whatever reason he has been a batting tee this year. Thankfull Cueto and Volquez have both flashed huge potential, but they are unproven so I am still a little worried about that.

both homer bailey and jay bruce are young, growing pains can be expected and i would like it much better if they were called up later, kind of under the radar from the major spotlight so there wasnt as much pressure on them so they get a pass from me. Edwin will be fine i think and i have always liked belisle in the bullpen more than the rotation as he provides us the perfect bullpan man capable of mop up dute or 3 good innings going through the lineup for the first time. For me it has to be Jon Coutlangus, I thought he was going to be a stud lefty after last season, the guy that would allow us to eat stanton's contract and not have to think twice yet his step back this spring has actually made me think its not a bad idea to go into the year with stanton....... unless merker keeps pitching the way he has lol

Well, I didn't expect much out of Belisle, so he can't be my biggest disappointment. Bruce acquitted himself very well, so he's not the choice. I've lowered my Edwin expectations, so I'm not surprised that he continues to struggle. Homer's struggles in 2007 indicated that he wasn't ready to succeed, so I guess his command and control difficulties weren't unexpected.
So, I guess of the listed players, I'd say that it would have to be Coutlangus. He still needs to log innings and gain experience, as he was a late convert to pitching. Though, Dusty would probably be my choice, if he was listed.

I would probably say Votto because I wanted him to do well in ST and solidify his spot at 1st. With our team looking solid this year and with the possibility to compete throughout the season, I want the best player for the team to play. Hatty is a great player and I know he is just as good as Votto right now. It just depends on if Votto can break out of this little slump because we need to start off right this season.
Votto is obviously going to be a stud don't get me wrong, but Hatty is very good too. I hope Votto comes on here (hit a homerun today!) towards the end to earn 1st base.
Can't wait to see what we can get for Hatty when it comes time to trade him. He'll be an awesome trading piece to fill a need when the time comes.

Spring Training bores the hell outta me.
unless you're there, of course.

Belisle, he was supposed to be a starter, but it appears we may have to put two young pitchers in tough spots when it was Belisle's job to lose.
