According to ESPN Insider:
Giants looking for help at 1B According to the San Francisco Chronicle, Giants' general manager Brian Sabean is looking for a left-handed hitting first baseman.
The Nationals' Nick Johnson and the Braves' Scott Thorman were mentioned as possible candidates to fill the void.
As much as I like Hatte, I wouldn't mind moving him for a decent prospect. More importantly, that'd clear a spot for Votto in the everyday lineup, which is where he should be.

One problem I have is that the Giants really don't have anything of value to trade.

I love hatte and appreciate what he has done for the organization the last 2 seasons so much. Having said that however, the best thing the Red's could possibly do for this season and the future is to trade hatte to the Giants and call up Andy Phillips. This ensures Votto gets most of the playing time and also gives a true righty to play at 1B when needed. Not to mention I think Andy Phillips is a good under rated player. He put together a very nice spring and is currently hitting .261 for Louisville. I think he would do quite well as a back up 1B for us and his defense is very good to having watched him the last few years with the Yankees

I agree schellis.
I'd do Hatte and Fogg for Cain, Lincecum, or Lowry....but I don't think they'd be cool with that. lol.
Maybe Hatte and Bailey for Lincecum would get the job done? Still pretty doubtful.

If I'm trading Bailey I would want Cain. I just think he's a more polished pitcher, and is a little underrated right now because of last year.
I would do Hatteberg for Corriea or Sanchez, but I don't think the Giants would deal any of their ML players that have any value and their minor leagues really aren't that great either.
I mean if they were they'd already be playing in San Fran.

I'd trade Hatte/Ross for Molina and a lower level guy...lol

The Giants are terrible this year, so it's a rebuilding year for them. That said, I'm not sure why they'd be interested in 38 year old Scott Hatteberg, especially if they have to pay much to get him.

I like having Hatteberg on the bench this year and as a backup whenever we need him. Keep him till next year at least, when we have a better idea of Votto's situation.

Hatteberg is a nice hitter, but really he's nothing special at all for a 1B. If you can get anything of value for him you do it. Its not like he's going to suddenly turn into a all star at 38.
If he were a right handed hitter I would definately consider it, but since he's not he's not really helping matters. Having two lefty 1Bs on the same roster is the same to me as carrying three catchers.
