In his first outing of the year Bailey pitched well
7 innings 2 hits 1 run 1 bb 2 K's only 82 pitches 59 for strikes. The down side was his fastball sat at 91 mph he just did not have the good fastball but his control was way way better.
Last night was diffrent. He had another great day.
5.2 innings 4 hits 0 runs 1 bb 7 K's and only 92 pitches with 62 for strikes. The good news is his fastball was 93-96 mph tonight. So far bailey is making a case to makea quick return to the Reds if Fogg struggles. I would rather him stay in AAA for awhile though but I am happy to see him pitchign well. He needs to get his control all the way together and maybe learn that slider or flatten out the curveball and I will be exited t have Cueto, Volquez and Bailey in the rotation.

Not overly pitch efficient in this last start, but still an improvement for him, and a higher percentage of strikes. I still think that slider should be priority number one for him as his mechanics will allow that to be more of a strikeout pitch than his curve, unless he can really tighten that curve up and get the drop without so much lateral movement. I hope he can turn it on and be the top 10 prospect everyone says he is because Arroyo may be taking a nose dive, and Fogg is Fogg.
Harang Cueto Volquez Bailey Arroyo/Fogg/Belisle
The end of this season should end with a rotation as such. Not to mention that if Daryl Thompson can have the kind of year Cueto had last year in the minors then Arroyo becomes expendable reaaaaaal quick.

I trade Arroyo this offseason if Thompson keeps this up and this would be rotation in 2009
1. Cueto 2. Harang 3. Volquez 4. Bailey 5. Thompson

Thompson All 5 of them would be under contract/control through 2011. Damn. Then we should hopefully have this eyars #7 overall, and Lotzkar ready by the time these guys get expensive and we can keep only the best of the bunch.

star, the question I have is what pitches is he throwing?
It's nice to see the stats, but we all know that he can beat up on AAA guys. Is he throwing his change and curve for strikes?

Fro what I listened to he was throwing them for strikes. I think he is working on a slider now as well.
To be honest if Thompson and bailey show they are going to be ready soon come June the Reds might look at a position player in the draft if the pitcher they want is not there at 7
I still take a pitcher though as wel have alot of solid young hitters in low minors already.

THOMPSON?! You think he's ready to be up at some point THIS year? Wow....I hope he does well enough for that, and you'd know more about it than me, but that sounds nuts. I see no other way to draft than for a starting pitcher. We can always use more SPs. I like to hear that Bailey's working on a slider. I think that fits him more than a curve.

I think what he meant was with the emergence of Homer and Thompson the Reds may want to consider drafting a position player in the June draft. I don't think he was saying Thompson will be MLB ready in June.

yeah I was saying if they show they are for real by june and could be ready soon we at the very least dont have to draft a pitcher. I take the best palyer available no matter what the position.

If they don't like a pitcher available at 7 then IO would think their top choices would be Tim Beckham (SS, (if he is still availabkle), Gordan Beckham (SS), Eric Hosmer (1B), or maybe Aaron Hicks (CF) who I am starting to like more and more as I read up on him.

Are the Beckham's related ? No, they are not. Just an odd coincidence.
