Wasn't Kramer the only one that said that? We all know his motives....
Amazing how sometimes prospects do turn out to be worth it....lol

Cueto and Volquez look to be for real, we still have a very yong and promising Homer Bailey, and Daryl Thompson has been electric in his first two starts in AA outpitching two top 25 prospects (Wade Davis and Rick Porcello).
The Reds may have legitimate good pitchers for the next several years...........I never thought this day might come.

If I recall the deal was Votto AND Cueto and maybe even a third piece.
And, yeah, Kramer was all for it. But then again, he was also for trading Bruce, Bailey, & Cueto for Beddard.
For all that I fault Krivsky, I do applaud the fact that he's resisted tempatation and kept the Fab Four intact.

I think there is a excellent chance that Cueto is a vastely superior pitcher to Blanton this year. Blanton will be dealt outside of Oakland and will show that he's a very average pitcher who's stuff is boarderline number 3 guy, but more likely a solid number 4.
Small market teams that throw out top dollar in terms of dollars or prospects for such pitchers are generally teams that are poor.
It is also not a wise move unless you are sure you are ready to contend.
As for Bedard he hasn't even pitched yet this year has he.

Blanton = Arroyo

Arroyo is a pretty close comparable to Blanton, but I think Arroyo is the more solid pitcher.
Blanton in Oakland is close to Arroyo in Cincinnati.
Blanton in Cincy I think would be a very disappointing move along the lines of the Milton deal.

Its so true that you just can't fork out huge money for vets when you can sign your own guys after four or five years of cheap work.

Blanton and his WHIP of 1.5 would have an ERA much higher than 3.44 in GABP. Why can't any of the radio guys who always talk about Blanton figure out that his success comes from playing in the Grand Canyon?
