definitely, if the term boys of summer fits this team this year things will be looking very bright

what does everyone here think of batting the pitcher eighth..I think it isn't a good idea because that is one less batter in front of the pitcher creating a better chance of the pitcher to get more at bats..but some say they like it because the nine hitter is like a second lead off man...thoughts?

I tend to believe the pitcher should bat ninth. But the Brewers with Kendall hitting well right now and then Weeks in the lead-off spot, it might work.

It defintely won't work for us with Bako/Valentin/Ross batting ninth.

Suppan is a smart pitcher. He doesn't have great stuff, but he uses what he has well.

And so far, Suppan is doing that very well.

yeah it definitely would not work with having Valentin/Bako/Ross..that would be maddening watching one of those guys holding up one of the faster baserunners, but that occasionally happens anyway..

Again, Cueto is dealing. He's got a 6/0 K/BB ratio and has thrown 52 strikes in 77 pitches.

I love his velocity, but I wonder if maybe taking a couple more mph off his change would be good..not right now, though..don't mess with what is working

Cueto was mixing speeds pretty well during the spring, probably just a little jacked up now that he is in the show and throwing smoke.

Edwin does not need sent down. People just need to understand that some players are slow starters.


Edwin's breakdown

March/April = 237avg 4hrs 37rbis
May = 260avg 6hrs 17rbis
June = 291avg 2hrs 15rbis
July = 281avg 4hrs 20rbis
August = 299avg 15hrs 50rbis
Sep/Oct = 253avg 10hrs 38rbis


The first month is by far his worst and then followed by Sep/October where he still drives in runs.


Break it down some more

1st half of season = 260avg 13hrs 75rbis
2nd half of season = 278avg 28hrs 107rbis ( would be nice to have that from your 6 hitter in a playoff push if you ask me )

Edwin is only 25 and one thing people dont seem to recognize is that his fielding is not that bad it is his throwing which should be fixable if the right coach is working with him.

Some some Edwin is a spare part on this team and isnt needed but that just isnt so.

When the Reds -> WIN Edwin's numbers are

310avg 24hrs 127rbis

When the Reds -> LOSE Edwin's numbers are

233avg 17hrs 55rbis

Would it be fare to say Edwin's numbers are better when we win? Would it be fare to say Edwin has a big part of that? I think it is fare to say he is a important cog to the team and helps them win. Does he always pefrom? Na, but it just shows how much we depend on this 25yr old who has been pushed and pulled in several directions since being up in the majors.

Also when batting 7th in the order Edwin puts up a 346avg with 7hrs and 46rbis.

Is there anyway possible that this 25yr old just hasnt learned to handle the major pressure yet? Is it fare to say he still has time?

With guys on base Edwin hits 317avg with 10hrs and 140rbis. Now this goes against my thoery that he hasnt learned how to handle the pressure yet. Maybe he just handles certain pressure situations better than others. I am not saying either is true but what I am trying to get people to understand is that Edwin pays back for the bad times when it is most needed.



Like many of my RANTS I dont have a clear objective to posting this but I guess I just wanted to get a few things out there. EDWIN IS IMPORTANT, EDWIN COMES THREW WITH GUYS ON BASE, EDWINS THROWING SHOULD BE FIXABLE, EDWIN IS WORTH HOLDING ONTO, EDWIN IS ONLY 25, EDWIN HAS THE TOOLS AND PUTS THEM TOGETHER 4 OUT OF THE 6 MONTHS.

I personally loved the rant...yes Edwin is fixable, he is a young talent that the Reds would be drooling over had he not been in the majors for a couple years..the expectations for him have been risen and he will eventually come to meet them...he is still solid right now, but can become a whole lot better
